I doubt Britney's critics will be silenced much since it isn't a major category Grammy. She didn't accept the award on television and didn't even attend. But she now doesn't have to hear the "never won a Grammy" tag anymore...

i'm really happy for her but i still think the Grammy's suck.
Same here. Never been a big fan of the Grammys (I know it is supposed to be the most prestigious music awards ceremony blah blah blah) and her winning is not going to make me like her any more. It's just not a big deal to me that she won.
and Christina should have beat Beyonces ass in 2003
Now I do agree with this. Beyonce picking up awards at every show in 2003 ticked me off big time.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the Grammy does go to her. I know this because a few months AFTER Kylie won her award, she was on the radio talking about how the Grammy went to her because she was the one who performed the song, she made a joke about how she was going to split it in half with the produers or something. She also talked about how it was the most important thing she had won and how it was sitting on her mantle piece blah blah.

Though I am happy she only won in this silly category. She doesn't need to win a big award like vocals or best new artist because she can't really sing, and she lyp- sings too much. Just my opinion. But good for you guys and her. :)

All I'm saying is that she didn't get an award for "Best Pop Vocal by a Female" kind of award or anything. Just an award for a dance record.
And I don't see yourself winning a Grammy anytime soon ...

Do you have trouble understanding written text? The quote you selected specifies the category the music can originate from. e.g. "Dance Tacks" that have the potential to be nominated can be a solo, duo, group, collaborative, vocal or instrumental. These are not criteria for which the song is judged on -- otherwise, how can Toxic be solo, group, duo, collaborative, instrumental, and vocal at the same time?
Think people.
Vocals just mean the song has a vocal track. Not that it's recognized for its vocals. If vocals were important for this category, it wouldn't be considered an optional implementation to be recognized as a nominee.

Isn't that 4 the Best Pop Vocal Grammy???
Best Dance Recording
(For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances. Vocal or Instrumental. Singles or tracks only.)
* Toxic
Britney Spears
Avant & Bloodshy, producers; Niklas Flyckt, mixer
Track from: In The Zone
[Jive/Zomba Label Group]
No, it's not.
daddyslittlegirl
Feb 14th, 2005, 11:20 AM
No, it's not.
No, I meant that there is one that is specifically 4 pop vocal, right? So they would consider this a dance song right??

No, I meant that there is one that is specifically 4 pop vocal, right? So they would consider this a dance song right??
Yes, they have several pop vocal categories -- this one is purely a dance track. So you're right, this is for a dance track only.
Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
(For a solo vocal performance. Singles or Tracks only.)
* Sunrise
Norah Jones
Track from: Feels Like Home
[Blue Note Records]
Category 6
Best Male Pop Vocal Performance
(For a solo vocal performance. Singles or Tracks only.)
* Daughters
John Mayer
Track from: Heavier Things
[Aware Records/Columbia]
Best Pop Vocal Album
(For albums containing 51% or more playing time of VOCAL tracks.)
* Genius Loves Company
Ray Charles & Various Artists
[Concord Records/Hear Music]
Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album
(For albums containing 51% or more playing time of VOCAL tracks.)
* Stardust...The Great American Songbook Volume III
Rod Stewart
[J Records]
Field 4 — Rock
Category 15
Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance
(For a solo vocal performance. Singles or Tracks only.)
* Code Of Silence
Bruce Springsteen
Track from: The Essential Bruce Springsteen
[Columbia Records]
For any song to win for vocal recognition, the award states "Pop vocal/Vocal Performance".
The key word in Britney's grammy is "Best Dance Recording".

Feb 14th, 2005, 11:58 AM
LOL @ them thinking that Genuis Loves Company is pop.
It's pop not in the sense that you recognize pop -- ala Britney teen era type pop. It's pop[ular] vocals. Like rnb pop, Punk Pop , etc. Every genre has a pop[ular] iteration that's considered to be "radio friendly" or have "mass appeal" in regards to its respective audience appeal.

whether or not the awards ceremony for her grammy aired on TV or not is irreleven being that she's still a winner. The Grammys only presented 11 awards on air, does that mean the others are less valued? no, don't think so.

To the luvers be happy Toxic was the best track on the cd, fast track I mean. No matter what Britney does until she releases her Ray of LIght album they will always hate her, and even after that she will still be hated.

I agree! A Grammy is a Grammy it doesnt change it's figure, shape and color. Everyone get's the same little trophy/trumpet?:laugh: or whatever the hell it is even if you won for Record of the year. Congragulations Britney! Toxic is her best song ever and I knew this song was going to win a grammy. I'm pretty sure if the Grammy commitee would of nominate her for more categories she would of won as well. This is Toxic's first AWARD! Vma's ed her over, Ama's and Rma's screwed her over and didnt nominate the song not even ONCE! The BBA's didnt give Toxic and it was the biggest pop song of 2004. Well I guess it was all woth it :bunny:

BRAVO!! Who would've thought Britney would have a Grammy before a VMA?
Britney's "personality" definitely shines through in the song. SHE played a great part (along with the beats, strings, guitar, etc.) in making Toxic a hit, which is why she deserves the award.
Previous winners in the dance category (she's in great company).
2005: Britney Spears "Toxic"
2004: Kylie Minogue "Come Into My World"
2003: Dirty Vegas "Days Go By"
2002: Janet Jackson "All For You"
2001: Baha Men "Who Let The Dogs Out"
2000: Cher "Believe"
1999: Madonna "Ray Of Light"
1998: Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder "Carry On"
Hopefully we will get a picture of her holding the trophy soon. :D

in this category the person singing (even if they aren't credited as a writer or producer) gets an actual grammy award for their contributions... meaning that every part of the recording is focused on (including vocals) at least to some extent... she may not have won specifically for her vocals as in the other categories but they did play a part in the overall judging of the song which means her talent did play a part in winning the grammy. so as fans we're entitled to celebrate that achievement. get over it.
Chi^_^
Feb 15th, 2005, 04:36 PM
Sure buddy. What are you? like some grammy official? You use the laughing way too much.
Are you?
Damn, you can't seem to understand a word of english -- yet you like correcting people with it.
(For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances. Vocal or Instrumental. Singles or tracks only.)
Let me put set it straight with you, according to the way you interpret things (which is wrong, btw, just thought I'd let you know) -- "Toxic" would be winning an award for:
Best Solo and
Best Collaborative and
Best Group and
Best Duo and
Best Vocals and
Best Instrumental
Your powers of deductive reasoning must not be very great if you can't discern simple context.
Those listed above are simply categories for which a song can be nominated -- since you don't seem to understand that, and I've already explained it to you, let me make it simpler.
This means that a Dance Track can be nominated if it is a:
Solo Performance or
Duo Performance or
Collaborative Performance or
Group Performance or
Now, this might get a little complicated for you, but let me try to make it simple. The Vocal or Instrumental addition refers to the following choices:
Vocal Solo Performance or
Vocal Duo Performance or
Vocal Collaborative Performance or
Vocal Group Performance or
Instrumental Solo Performance or
Instrumental Duo Performance or
Instrumental Collaborative Performance or
Instrumental Group Performance
If a song can fit into these categories, provided that it falls under the musical genre of Dance Music, then it is elligible for an award nomination.
Was that so hard for you to think about, or are you happy with the fact that you practice a heavy dose of cognitive dissonance?

I'm glad Toxic won something.. It's a great tune..
I was just stating.. I always knew if Britney won a Grammy, it'd be like most of Janet's or Paula's.. Being for the dance or for the video's..
You'd never expect any of them get like best female pop vocal or anything..

Most people don't seem to understand this :) Toxic was a clear winner for dance track -- I just find it funny how some people try to make it out for more than what it is. It's not a song praising vocals -- it's overall production, but people get so bent out of shape when it comes to re-evaluating their posoition that they'd rather not think about at all and change the argument. =) You == cool

I think this is the kind of award Britney deserves, for dance songs, she must sing only that kind of songs,I don't think she will ever win an award for her vocals acrobatics or stuff, but this Grammy was not surprise for me.

I find it funny that some Christina fans said they have lost respect for the Grammy's when Britney won. Hello Milli Vanilli won back in the late 80's was it? and then Baha men won for Who Let THe Dogs Out. What did you have some sort of praise for them? Give me a break. She won it fair and square. Some you can't admit it because now that she's known as the Queen of pop, a grammy winner, the best female pop performer out there, and has the sales you still want to bash on her. Just leave already.First and foremost, get your facts straight, I started getting disappointed of the Grammy's ever since the 2nd year I watched it. (I think that was in 2000).
She did win it fair and square. No doubt about it.
I have nothing against Britney winning the Grammy. I might have a problem with her, but not her winning the Grammy.
Like I said, she deserves it.

People crack me up. Now that Brit's won a grammy for her over processed vocals on Toxic, without writing a lick of it, or using any vocal talent at all, and having other people produce it, her fans think that they and Britney are the . At least Christina wins for vocal talent. What can you say Brit won for? Showing up to the studio and moaning the words she was told to at the time she was told to?
Yeah, a grammy's a grammy, however, the grammy belongs to the people who made the track deserving of a grammy, and Britney isn't one of them.
And Taurus, no one's trying to take any happiness away. Some of us know that this is going to be shoved down our throats in the future, just like Britney's record sales and concert sales are, which also have nothing to do with talent. Now that "she" has won a grammy, oh hell, the 's gonna hit the fan now, and you won't be able to tell her fans anything...

Blah blah blah..
Actually, I think her voice MADE the song, the vocal arrangements, the style she gave to the verses, the CHORUS, the whispery effect given to it, I think she was fit for the song. Her voice just blended well into the song, she sounds pretty good too. Well, at least in "In the Zone" it's one of her best vocal tracks.

What's the en point in arguing? Geezz you guys make me feel embarrassed of my two favorite artists  First xtina fans, A grammy is a GRAMMY. Toxic deserved to win! Now that I look at the past I understand why Britney never won any grammys for her past albums. She doesnt' have a great voice like the rest she competed with, she's never going to win a Grammy in that department and I one of her biggest fans will admit that. Toxic won because it was well produced and was probably the best dance song of the year. It's vocals were better than any other song she was nominated in, that's why I think she won the Grammy. Kylie has a better voice imo and I en hate that b!tch but I know for a fact that Britney won because it was a great DANCE TUNE and it was the best out of all of em. Now Britney fans, I hate when you guys bring Xtina into this. How could you? You know Xtina has a better voice than Britney and she's won 4 grammys already all of em which she has picked up herself live on T.V. Cut it out you guys, this could go on forever and no one is going to prove anything. Just follow your favorite artist, dont come here if your not a Britney fan cuz seriously you guys look like haters which you are. We all know that Xtina cant dance as well as Britney and sell as much as Britney. We also know that Britney will never win the grammy's that Xtina has won in the past and that she'll never top Xtina's voice. To tell you the truth Xtina is smarter. I love Britney the most but she needs to keep her life private and not try to make it public all the time, which now that I think of it it's not really her fault becuase of course Britney Gets the most ATTENTION  you see? It's over.

I agree, although I'd want to clarify that her talent lies as an entertainer more than it does as a singer. IMO.
And I hope that Britney -hating is a phase that people grow out of, because if not jealous, the haters come off as being rather immature and spiteful. But whatever floats their boat. For the record, the same can be said for any rabid haters...I personally don't get it.

I am going to pick you out of the crowd because I don't think that anyone here has made a bigger hypocrite out of themselves besides you.
1. You feel sorry for me? How is that so? I remember having arguements with you on the CHRISTINA board and asking you the same thing, so don't go there. I suppose BS (which is exactly what her music is) wasn't keeping you busy while you were on the Christina board, huh?
I have been here only once before, and I remember you coming to the X-tina board more times than I can count. I like how you say "awards", like awards (Teen Choice, Nickelodeon, American Music) and popularity equals talent. I suppose that's how most of you BS fans think, though, cause most of you seem to be teenyboppers, in the land where whatever is popular is good. Nikka Costa doesn't make as much money as even Mandy Moore, but she is much more talented than Britney, not to mention Alicia Keys, Renee Oldsen, and... hell, there are so many that it would take me till tomorrow to list all of the talent that goes unpaid and unnoticed in the music industry. Britney was at the right place at the right time. Have you noticed how she never sings accapella when she is asked to sing one of her songs? Have you ever noticed how BAD she sounds when she does sing live? Have you ever noticed how many people it takes to help her make even the simplest of songs? Of course you wouldn't, because you are just looking at all the fluff that people want you to see: the empty hype, and all the glitz and glamor. Put any other talent in a room with Britney and just a chair and a microphone, and they would outshine her. Give any singer/songwriter (yep, even Christina) in a room alone with her and see what each of them come up with. People like you are the reason why they keep making crappy clones of the same crappy artists just to make money, all the while taking up valuable resources and time that could otherwise be filled with talent.
For the record, I cannot hate people I do not know.

But whenever I'd go there I wanted to see why people would still make threads about Britney even though there's a rule about it. Ahh to answer the awards question an American Music Award isn't about popularity. It's based on material and sales if I can remember correctly. That is the biggest award before the grammy. But you hate that now because britney has both awards. Oh this is my lucky day people have asked her many times to sing acappella. Have you heard Stand by me? She sang this song with some guy who was interviweing her. She has sung Overprotected acappella while she travelled to Japan to be interviewed and perform her small set there. She's sang lonely acappella, You've got it all (jet's classic), she's sung sometimes acappella. This is just another thing that some of you are naive and ignorant about. You just called Christina a clone did you know that? She was modelled after Britney. Britney's gotta be doing something right to have stayed in the music biz for almost 8 years since she first started. I think what bugs all of you is that Britney was the first to come out, and when others started coming up after Britney, they were labeled as posers and copy cats. While Britney is the Original Doll.

Does it really matter who sings what, who came out first? Bla bla, it's people like you who keep the rival thing going which Britney AND Christina despise. You know yourself both of them are different artists but you just can't resist to compare them.
I'm not even going to bring up anything what you just have because it's pathetic. You go to the Christina board, hun - you would realize there hasn't been any Britney threads at all so stop using it as a excuse.

Well, most people here are fine with that she won, there's just argument about why she won it. And the ones who think she won it because of vocals, believe anyone who thinks differently hates Britney's guts. Seriously, get over yourselves. We don't hate her, nor are we jealous, we simply think the win was because it is a good dance track. Chi^^ explained the award the best, IMO. Anyway - Just because we're not 110% obsessed with Britney and all up her ass, does not mean we hate her. Why is it that we can't dislike a single thing without automatically being "haters"? Hell, I'll be the first to admit that Britney is one of my guilty listening pleasures. the fact of the matter is Britney won something no one ever expected her to win...and anyone who's ever said anything negative about Britney's career would use that as evidence, but now that Britney's won a Grammy, everyone's getting defensive because they can no longer say the things they used to say. why else would they CARE so highly to justify how Britney won her award.

Actually, there is always something to say. You can say something about Beyonce who won 5 Grammy's on her first time nominated, you can say anything. Not everyone thought Britney was talentless just cause she didn't win a Grammy - there are actually alot more reasons why she probably hasn't won in the past.

Well, certainly that's quite honest of you to admit -- however, while some Christina fans do claim she's brilliant, I'd have to say that there are a lot fans who tend to be fairly objective about their opinions on her music writing or media composure.
Maybe it's due to the fact that I mainly read the posts that typically make sense? :) Then again, that might be because the fan-base on this particular board is much larger than with Britney's -- I'd assume the same would be reversed on a bigger Britney board.

Using a simple everyday word shows lack of intellegence? You just proved how much of a half-wit you truely are.
And please to try to critique Christina's vocabulary when it is far more developed then Britney's. Christina actually answers a question rather than chewing up a couple of words and spitting it out like Britney.

No one trys to portray her as a genius. You just attacked her for using "um" too much, Whatnot, and this unknown quote...when all that was was utter a$$talk. We are just questioning your ignorance. Because quite frankly, Christina is far more quick-witted than Britney both Vocally and intellectually.

I like Britney. But it's her fans who constantly put up this wall against Christina fans. I know Christina uses words here and there a couple of times. But I came to defense because a "Britney" fan was critiquing her vocabulary when it's pretty obvious that Christina's vocab is more developed and just all around more full-fledged than Britney's.

Wait wait wait..... someone like britney speares has catchy songs and a limited vocal ability...if you look at all of her songs in the production notes you'll realize that she doesn't make any of the songs herself. So basically anyone could be britney speares..... you just put a pretty face, a nice girl image (at first), a moderate singing voice(that's being generous) and give her some dance lessons and there's your pop star. I mean if you watch the Onyx hotel tour you realize she's barely singing through any of it at all. Other artists might not have sold as many records but they're writing their stuff on their own...maybe with a little help from producers but their name is part of the production of the song.....album sales would be easy for anyone who has a team of people creating hits for them. Another example is someone like Mariah Carey...she sure as hell doesn't write all of her material but the fact that she has an absolutely amazing voice shadows it. I like some of britney speares songs but it's not her that makes them.........whatever happened to artistic integrity? I mean Justin Timberlake was part of that lame packaged pop wave but he at least rose above it and actually put together his own stuff and was rather successful because of it. You're comparing britney who didn't even put together the song she won the grammy for with people that actually sat down and worked extremely hard to produce a good dance song. You can still like britney songs or like her image that is portrayed to the media and her fans but don't try to make it seem like she's this important artist....anyone can get handed songs and choreography.

Also there's an interesting article in Entertainment Weekly from a few weeks back that shows how her album sale have decreased drastically between albums. Her first sold over 10 million the next sold 8 then the next sold about 4....her latest album In The Zone only sold about 2 million and her greatest hits hasn't hit the million mark yet....her song my perogative off the album didn't even chart in the top 50 of Billboards Hot 100.

And you have a grammy? The studio enhancement might not be so bad if she could actually sing, but she just cant. She can dance and sell records based on the hype, but I can tell you its not because of talent. I dont think one artist uses it, but its sure more noticable with Britney.
