Do you think it is possible for this song to be played solo piano without the song losing its intensity?
Just curious to see what opinions/thoughts are out there...

I think the solo piano songs are evidening a tremendous intensity, though it is a different intensity (that I am not sure I can describe). As Bruce has evolved and grown as a musician, he is getting better and better on the piano. I think he is talented enough to make almost any song in his catalogue intense and entertaining on the piano. That is a long way of saying YES.

So far, he's played Incident, For You and Lost in the Flood on piano, so methinks he can manage Backsteets.

It would kill me if he did it in Chicago tonight! Chicago was originally on my radar, but then the rehersal show came up...
nah, he'll save it for me in Cleveland ;)

Nah, Chicago is where he plays all the rarities and tunes everyone else only dreams of hearing. Let's see, there was....
hmmmm
no, then there was...
wait a minute, I'll think of it....
I'm sure something will come to mind eventually...

(who probably isn't getting Backstreets tonight)

I truly wish you a great show... I already am regretting not going - Chicago was part of my 'see Bruce in a city you've never seen him before' promise that I made to myself.
I will get to Chicago... just it likely will be when Bruce ISN't there.

KJ,
I kid a lot and occasionally bitch and moan a little when I compare Bruce's setlists elsewhere vs. Chicago. On the Rising tour, we got very standard setlists, especially disappointing as they were right on the heels of the Philly shows. For such a supposedly big Bruce market, he hasn't seemed to take a lot of chances here. But I always have a good time, and am sincerely thankful that I get a chance to go see him.
Thanks for the kind wishes. I'm sure we'll have a wonderful show, and I hope you do too.

Krazey Janey...apparently you missed the "BACKSTREETS UNTIL THE END" compilation CD we made and tree'd here about 5 years ago...... PM me your address if you want a copy... it's 12 versions of Backstreets. Never a dull moment. :)

I forget where I read the interview but I found it interesting to hear that Bruce wrote the piano intros himself for: "Backstreets; "Jungleland", etc from BTR. I know he writes all of the music and lyrics; I guess I just assumed Roy played around on the piano to come up with the intros.

Ok Daddy-O.... you got one HELLUVA show!
I am of course kicking myself for not getting there - but that is par for the course.
Here's hoping he takes more 'chances' as you say when he comes the Cleveland way :)

Yes we did.
Too bad we didn't get "Backstreets". We did, however, get the whistling banjo version of "I'm On Fire".

I was at the show, and trust me, the song did not lose its intensity solo on the piano. It was riveting, and he nailed it as well.

It's easy to become jaded and take for granted what Bruce(and the ESB for that matter) delivers to us on stage while he shields the journey to get there...
Making it look easy...that's the definition of a true professional...
I'll have to listen to the boot to re-live the actual performance of it...this is one of those situations when knowing and hearing it soundchecked skews the beauty of it's final presentation...
To my (and others) ears...I found myself pretty anxious while he played it after hearing it so far from perfect during soundcheck and hearing how it was even more riddled with flaws in it's soundcheck prior...at one point I was holding my breath hoping he'd be able to "pull it off", not like County Fair...
It's like watching your child or teammate or friend take the stage in competition after having seen them fall time after time in practice...
Once they take the stage, you cross your fingers, hold ytour breath and hope with all your might that they conquer and deliver...and throughout the glory after they nail it...you really can't experience it as intended until you watch the video tape...

Maybe if you hadn't become part of the 'inner circle' and been at the pre-party with the rest of us mere mortals you would have appreciated it more when it was played. ;)

Funny you mention this. My boys had their annual piano competition at the Southwestern Youth Music Festival this past weekend. The past two years, my youngest took first and third, with my oldest taking first place last year.
This year, they performed great (confirmed by our contraband video tape), but they didn't even place. We're proud as heck but still scratching our heads...
Alas, no trophies.

did Flory Days make the show? :)Didn't make it Deena, although this was not the show I was hoping to combine with a wedding trip.......that was Milwaukee.
Now that you mention it, its always apparent in hindsight........but here is what I should have done:
Get a sitter for Cincy and go to that one with Kay.
Take the kids to St. Louis on 8/6. Go from St. Louis to Milwaukee for the wedding 8/7. Now why didn't I think of that? :)
Backstreets is probably my favorite too. That alone will make the St. Louis show a must-have boot.
