John Lennon's former lover has blasted historical records for declaring the BEATLES' split was permanent, insisting they'd always planned to play together again.

Lennon's personal assistant May Pang - who had an 18-month affair with the Imagine singer in 1973 after he split from Yoko Ono - claims the pop icon often fantasised about reuniting with his ex-bandmate Sir Paul McCartney.

And Lennon often asked for advice on whether he should write to McCartney suggesting the Fab Four reform, to which Pang assured him they're far better as a unit than as solo artists.

She says, "Though John and Paul did not write many songs together, they had always been sounding boards for each other's ideas and he missed that. He was always saying, 'I wonder what Paul is up to.'

"I remember him saying, 'Do you think I should write with Paul again?' and I said, 'Absolutely, you should do it because it seems you want to. As solo performers you are good but together you can't be beaten.'"http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/lennon%20wanted%20a%20beatles%20reunion%20says%20lover

I know they still would see each other (Paul and John) after the break-up. I have heard some stories about Paul and Linda sometimes stopping by for dinner with John and Yoko in New York.

Really? I was under the impression that Paul & John never really hung out at all after the group broke up. Shows you what I know. I've read the nasty letters those two exchanged, lol.

FWIW, I own a DVD that was on VH-1 a few years back called "Two Of Us". I don't know whether or not you've seen this particular movie, but the whole idea of the film was to provide a fictional account of what it would've been like if John & Paul got together for an afternoon without anybody else around. I believe the director got the idea to do the film based on rumours that Paul visited John at the Dakota in the late seventies, but I've never heard anybody confirm whether this actually happened or not.

I had actually heard one story of John and Paul hanging out at John and Yoko's apartment, watching Saturday Night Live back in the days when Lorne Michaels was offering money ($1200) for the Beatles to appear on the show. According to the story, they considered going over on the spot, but decided it wouldn't be fair to the people performing that night, because obviously, the entire show would have been upstaged.

Also, don't forget that the two people Yoko called after returning from the hospital were Aunt Mimi, and then Paul.

Back when I was in Boston I worked with a very knowledgable Beatles fan. He hosted a Beatles show every weekend on the station. One Christmas I produced for him when he did all Beatles as a special Christmas. He had told the story, similar to the SNL story of Claire's which he got second-hand from Paul... From a Beatles writer who had interviewed Macca. I trust the sources.

Hmm..This SNL scenario was played out in the movie (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00007ELFF/qid=1117107316/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-3481422-0983027?v=glance&s=dvd) I referred to in my last post, which leads me to believe that whoever told you about this may have seen the exact same film.

There's a disclaimer at the very beginning of Two Of Us.

This fictional film is not endorsed by any person depicted herein and neither such persons nor their families, heirs or related parties have participated in the making of this film.

Legend has it that in 1976 - six years after the bitter breakup of the Beatles - Paul McCartney paid a suprise visit to John Lennon at his apartment in New York City.

This film makes no attempt to document what may have occured at such a meeting. Rather, it is a work of fiction in appreciation of two blokes from Liverpool and the gifts they gave us.

To be honest, I don't know what to believe. Some of the film is based on historical truths, the rest of it is conjecture. Either way, I have to believe that time would've healed most of their wounds, and they would've gotten together at some point.

There may be some truth to the story, because I heard it long before the Two of Us was made.

I hope it is true. I guess I just wonder why Paul (to my knowledge anyway) hasn't said anything about this supposed meeting. Maybe it's too personal to him? Kind of a between John and me thing? I guess we'll never really know unless Paul opens his yapper.

I haven't heard anything musically from or about Julian, John's 1st son in quite awhile. Does anyone know what's going on with him? In the back of my mind, after John died and before George died I always felt Julian might take John's place if the Beatles were to ever have a reunion! Sigh. I guess some things in life only happen once and those of us who are of"that age" will have to live with those bittersweet memories. Still where HAS Julian been?

Last thing he did was cover "Taxman" for H&R Block.
