Well it started out with panic didnt it Mindy? TM yanked the show off the web and never put it back up. Well it is NYC on a Saturday night. But in the end it all worked out. The drop happened big time on the line at MSG. Mindy and Phil upgraded and then Murphy and his g/f broke their U2 cherries! What did yaz think Murphy? Eric and I dumped his old parents around 7:30 at the Mustang joint, went insideand snuck backstage. We hung out till Kings of Leon were done. Backstage we spotted a very heavily guarded Kofi Anan(sp) the guy that runs the UN.
And for a pretty cool moment had our picture taken with Michael Imperiole and Steve Shirippa. I hope it comes out ! Michael was really cool. I had stopped him as he was walking by and he said hello shook hands and I asked him for a picture. He was way cool and said yes and could his friend Steve get in it. I said Little Stevens here? He said no.Its Sharippa ! LOL
So a guard took us fours picture. Then Eric and I snuck out onto the GA floor. I exhausted all avenues to get us into the bomb shelter. Maybe next time Mindy and Lauren can get me in ;)
It was pretty crowded so I ditched Eric (13 years old) to fend for himself. :)
And I went upstairs to watch the show. For 13 years old, the kid did ok. He ended up standing 1 row off the walkway surrounded by 3 hooters babes.
 His Dad was very proud.Mindy will never leave me alone with him in NYC again. :D :D :D He`ll be Bar Mitzfahed (Methodist spelling) by the next time I see him so .............
So on my way off the floor to go upstairs I almost run into our Steven (Silvio) :) I said hello but it was very fast bing bang boom. I regret to say I lost what few brains I have and didnt ask Little Steven or Michael, band or Sapranos related questions
My overall impression of the music last night was it was rushed. I got the feeling they were going through the motions. Perhaps Bono felt the pressure of having to end by midnight? I just cant say. In my opinion though, this band shares the same thing with Bruce in that even in a off night they are still the best live acts out there. If your going to any Boston shows and you have a decision to make as to where to stand in the Bomb Shelter or outside of it GA floor, choose Adams side. All in all it was a very entertaining evening. There was alot of loud singing, crowd clapping, dancing in the ailes, happy fun smiling fans! Not 1 STFU !!!
PS........Mindy, your son is a very polite young man. You and Phil should be very proud of him.
It feels funny not banging TM and not having the phone ring every 10 minutes.I do believe Im experiencing withdrawal :) And it sucks.

Yes, Nut, my son thoroughly enjoyed himself with his Hooter babes! Now, he is truly a man! There is no need for his bar-mitzvah.... :blueeek:
Is there anyone here who saw U2 at CAA and MSG?? I thought the sound was terrible at MSG, and great at CAA. However, I was on the floor at CAA, so I don't think the comparison is fair. I was wondering was someone thought who sat in approximately the same area at both venues...
It was nice seeing a few familiar Bruce people on the MSG drop line.

Cool story, Nut.
I went back last night for Philly #2. I was sort of prepared for them to have a bit of a let down after playing MSG the night before. Boy, was I wrong. Much more energy than the first Philly show and the crowd was much more into it, too. Last Saturday was the basic "canned" setlist. Last night, played Gloria and With or Without You. Only disappointing moment, Bad was on the original setlist to end the show but Bono audibled 40.
One last thing, Running to Standstill is the highlight of a show that has many of them, IMHO.

I forgot Philly was Sunday night ! Hope you had a great time. Maybe thats the reason they rushed at MSG? I agree with about Running to Stand Still. I thought we would get Angels of Harlem @ MSG.

As much as I enjoyed Bruce Tuesday night, I agree that it is nice to be able to yell and have a great time at a show. Like I said, I enjoyed the Bruce show & the whole mellow vibe, but there's nothing like 20k Philly fans singing;
High, higher than the sun
You shoot me from a gun
I need you to elevate me here,
At the corner of your lips
As the orbit of your hips
Eclipse, you elevate my soul
I've lost all self-control
Been living like a mole
Now going down, excavation
I and I in the sky
You make me feel like I can fly
So high, elevation
A star lit up like a cigar
Strung out like a guitar
Maybe you could educate my mind
Explain all these controls
I can't sing but I've got soul
The goal is elevation

John, where did you end up on the floor? I stayed in the back the entire time so I could dance and shake my bones...Too crowded up front for me

We were probably about 30 feet to the front right of the soundboard. Right behind where it got too crowded to deal with. Not bad for 50 bucks. Snapped some pictures, hopefully they come out well.

How can you say New Jersey was better? The show and the sound had to be better at MSG. Why? I am from New York and that is the way it is. Ooops wrong thread.
Mindy, oddly enough the sound at CAA was really good. We had the worst seats possible. I guess it depends where you sit. I saw Prince last year and the sound echoed throughout the show and we had good seats.

I thought the U2 MSG show rocked. They played most of what I wanted to hear...I would have loved New Years Day and Gloria, but there are tons of songs I haven't heard from Bruce in the 8 shows I have been to see him. I'm still waiting for Because the Night, Incident, Saint in the City, Racing...

It just seems odd. I know Bruce's shows in the Garden sounded great. I was sitting in a place that should have had great sound. I read on the U2 boards that Bono was very tipsy. Maybe that's why his words sounded garbled to me...

After all the drama and scramblng around to get in it was worth every annoying minute. Mindy thanks alot and it was great seeing you and your family and Brucenut. We had a great time and having it with cool folks makes it better:)
Overall thoughts are:
A. Great show and MORE than I expected and I expected a ton. I will say it many times but this is 4 guys and they put out a ton of music.
B. Not having a frame of reference if it was rushed I saw it as efficient OR that they new one of the tubes of the midtown tunnel was closed;) Remember 4 guys!
C. From where we sat the sound I thought was great IMO and it is after all 4 guys!
D. The light show was not overkill and I always like the egg heart pit idea. Just think luck of the draw based on your ticket and no BS with GA lines and list guys. Listening Bruce???BTW 4 guys!
E. Not one STFU, not one camera taken away and one 'get your cell phones out' - listening Bruce! - Oh and 4 guys!
F. The crowd basically stood up and partied the whole show which is my kind of gig as a rock concert to me SHOULD be. 4 guys!
4 guys with a ton of talent put out a ton of music and a great show which leads to a new addiction;)
Great time - Thanks again Mindy :music: :music:

UN NY U2
Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations, was among an amazing guest list at last night’s New York show.
Here’s some snapshots from a dazzling show which opened with City of Blinding Lights and closed with Vertigo and featured some extra special detours along the way.
1. Seems like anyone who was anyone in the business of show knows that a U2 concert is the place to be seen in 2005. (It’ll take us most of our space just to tell you who was there)
2. There was more of Hollywood here for the Madison Square Gardens show - the only New York show on this leg - than there were for the Los Angeles shows. Last night we saw Tim Robbins, Julia Roberts and Matt Dillon plus
Australian stars, Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts. Then there was Soprano’s creator David Chase and stars of the show including James Gandolfini and Steve Van Zandt.
3. Rock’n roll was not to be outdone - you couldn’t move for music stars either. David Bowie and Patti Smith were in the house as were Phil Ramone, members of Depeche Mode, Mike D and Sean Combes … much to the delight of the New York crowd. Then there was the Scissor Sisters, Julian Casablancas from the Strokes and the Rapture.
4. Sticking with aesthetic categories, contemporary art was represented by Damien Hirst while old U2 pals Helena Christensen and Christy Turlington were getting on down for fashion.
5. And then there were the politicians and campaigners, including Congressman Sweeney and Congresswomen Nita Lowey as well as the brilliant economist Jeffrey Sachs who gave Bono a crash-course in global finances a few years ago and United Nations Secretary General, Mr Kofi Annan.
6. Oh, and a show too. As a packed house was ‘getting ready to leave the ground’ as Bono sang the opening track, City of Blinding Lights, he must have felt their warmth. ‘I love the Garden’ , he said, before Elevation arrived and he remembered the earliest visit of U2 to New York when they had played a tiny club. As every night of the tour to date, the unlikely choice of Cry / Electric Co. and An Cat Dubh / Into the Heart turned into a triumph, sounding as contemporary now as then.
7. No surprise though at the earth-moving roars of recognition with the opening chords of Beautiful Day, before a trio of cuts from the new record - Miracle Drug, Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own and Love and Peace or Else. ‘We need faith in God, we need faith in science and we need faith in God to use scientists, nurses, doctors and the people that keeps us alive…’
8. Wearing his now familiar white bandana for the trilogy of Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bullet The Blue Sky and Running to Standstill, Bono pointed to the symbols of three great world faiths creating the slogan ‘Co-exist’ on his forehead. ‘This city’ he said, ‘Is the greatest evidence in the whole world for this.’
9. ‘Moonshot’ moment. They put a man on the moon in the 1960’s, recalled Bono, remembering how America first came into his consciousness. ‘The Americans… the things they can do when they put their minds together.’ Now a new challenge is here: ‘to put mankind back on earth’, to bring equality to the people of Africa, an end to ‘stupid’ poverty in this generation.
Another lump-in-the-throat moment as fans began texting the ONE campaign number, signing up their support. As Madison Square Gardens was lit up in a dazzling display of blue and white cellphone fireflies, U2 played One. (‘Jeff Sachs, this is for you…’)
10. Original of the Species was in again tonight. It wasn’t on the set list but it’s a great surprise when it arrives, unpredicted, as it sometimes does.
11. Oh, did we mention David Bowie was at the show ? And he got a
different kind of tribute. Suddenly, out of nowhere, four boys from Dublin
were back in the 1970’s and fiercely jamming a different but strangely familiar tune. Jean Genie by one David Bowie. Brilliant.
12. Here’s the complete set list
City of Blinding Lights
Vertigo
Elevation
Cry / Electric Co.
An Cat Dubh / Into the Heart
Beautiful Day
Miracle Drug
Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own
Love and Peace or Else
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Bullet The Blue Sky
Running to Standstill
Pride in the Name of Love
Where the Streets have no Name
One
Zoo Station
The Fly / Jean Genie
Mysterious Ways
Original of the Species
All Because of You
Yahweh
Vertigo
