It was time for her 13-year-old child to have sex?
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) _ Westchester's district attorney charged a Long Island mother with aiding the statutory rape of her 13-year-old daughter by providing liquor and a White Plains hotel room -- and saying it was about time her daughter had sex.
District Attorney Jeanine Pirro said a 14-year-old friend of the daughter was also raped. The 41-year-old mother, whose name was not made public to protect her daughter's identity, and two young men who allegedly had sex with the girls were indicted yesterday on charges of second-degree rape and other sex crimes. The mother was also accused of endangering a child's welfare and unlawfully dealing with a child.
The alleged rapes occurred in April, after the woman, her daughter and two of the daughter's friends, ages 13 and 14, came to White Plains from Sayville, Long Island, for two days of shopping.
The girls met the men -- 19-year-old Gilberto Gonzalez, of Pleasantville, and 18-year-old Michael Berger, of White Plains -- at the City Center mall and again in a restaurant and exchanged cell phone numbers.
The district attorney said the mother invited the young men to a nearby hotel room, bought liquor for the teens and allegedly told the men that the girls were 16, which is still under the age of consent.
The case was reported to Suffolk County police when the mother of one of the girls' friends heard about it. The county police then alerted White Plains police.
