...last Thursday. Our eldest had a date with his g/f at 6 flags and so Trish and I went to AP to kill time until the appropriate p/u time.

I gotta say, AP is slowly looking bettter. The boardwalk was pretty and the benches were clean...someone was watering the shrubs beside the road in front of the Pony, the people were relaxed and enjoying life. The only downer was that Harry's was closed.

They should be watering the history rather than the shrubs. Don't tell me that Harry's is closed again - damn it. I met Leah once and she remembered me from those harried nights last Christmas (I can't believe I"m listening to a swing version of "Wonderwall" by Paul Anka and it's not bad - but the slow acoustic version by Ryan Adams is much cooler) but she has yet to call me back. :hat:

I thought the food sucked when I was there. No loss in my book. Kelly's will always be my first choice for eats/atmosphere.

Whether or not Harry's was good or Admiral didn't get a call back from the lovely Leah( damn fine waitress) , or Kelly's rules supreme( I like Clancey's). It's a good observation Asbury Park is coming back. The Wonderbar is looking fine with it's new windows...the Bistro across from the train station is great, and the restoration of the old buildings is fantastic. I think it was important Harry's stayed open as another source for getting to see bands. I love the Saint but it's capacity is too small. The Pony has the tradition but lacks the ability to be a comfortable place when it's filled. Anybody who dares staying at the Berk note that you'll never be able to sleep if ya get a room facing the construction and it still operates like a horror inn...But a fun place to crash when ya don't give a damn. AP a/k/a sh*thole town by some always have has a spirit to it. Some very nice people are doing a good job in not letting something die despite the power struggles and corruption that plague the place. Melikes.

glad to hear all this, sounds like they are restoring it without changing it too much. Thanks for sharing.

From all of the weekly Asbury-update e-mails that Tom Gilmour sends out, they are really working hard to improve the town and it's nice to see/hear that it is happening. As for Harry's - I enjoyed myself to the fullest every time that I was there. I was disappointed that it closed. It wasn't the food or the service, it was the fun I had seeing bands like John Eddie or Bruce's Christmas shows.

Admiralkosmos: Leah, unfortunately, was fired over the winter. (I am sure that's why you didn't get your call back!!!! :D )The staff said that she didn't show up for work. I liked her - she was a cool girl.
