* Jay Payton released
*Millar asks to be traded, says he does not like his role on the team.
*Damon freaks out about Schilling being the closer. Says Timlin or Arroyo deserve the role and that Schilling is too old (ouch!)
*it looks like Gabe Kapler got out of his contract in Japan and is coming back to the Sox.
*Ramon Vasquez is traded for Alex Cora of the Indians

I don't follow the Sox super close, but Millar is one of my faves because I used to watch him play when he was in college. I wonder where he would go IF they trade him.

I know I love Millar! I'd be disappointed if he left the sox :(

Sounds like most years. Last year was the fluke. We've heard stuff like this all the time for years. Even as Boggs' time run down up there, it wasn't sure if he would be a hero or villian up there.

Yeah I bet your hoping last year was a fluke right? Hey I just heard Sheffield sent out a "warning" to the Red Sox to the media today telling them they better not hurt precious A-Rod...I can't wait for this series.

It's about damn time the Yanks stopped being panzies against the Red Sox. Thurman Munson is fuming in his grave that these guys have just rolled up each and every time the Red Sox have done something. Hell, Paulie is probably doing the same thing deep down.

I hope the Yanks throw at Sox, I hope they start fights. That's what this rivalry has always been about, and since the Sox have been all too happy to oblige, the Yanks need to step up to the plate as well. I'm not saying I'm pro-fighting in general but considering the Sox have a recent history of starting fights and throwing inside (not just against NY), then the Yanks need to take a good look at history and retaliate.

I think Schilling blowing a save tonight was nice retalliation. :-D

When was the last time the Sox STARTED the fight? If your referring to last July I believe it was the beloved A-Rod who started that one, Bronson pictches inside and sometimes he hits people and A-Rod couldn't deal with that, he should have taken his base like a man and shutup. The Tampa Bay fight started out the same way but Tampa took it personally like little babies so Arroyo had to step up for the team.

Ooh, let's see. I remember the Tampa Bay situation as being a two-game situation, but of course you only want to remember the game with the fight. In Tampa Bay, the Sox threw inside all series at the start of the year, but one comes up and in on Ortiz and the Sox take exception... And Schilling then goes on 'EEI spewing junk about Piniella (nevermind he I believe had been throwing tight).

Or there was the fight in Anahiem two years ago, much the same.

Or A-Rod, where he said something as players often do, but it was Varitek who went out after A-Rod.

Or there was the time the Sox were throwing up and in to the Yankees all game and Manny, who didn't even get close to being hit, causes the benches to clear.

There was Pedro hitting the whole ballpark it seemed. How many times do you think it is okay to hit poeple before there's a fight? Apparently once as you condone the Tampa Bay issue. But when a bunch of players get hit it's fine? Feh.

And as I said in the past, notice that with the Yankees it always happens at Fenway. The Red Sox punks are afraid to rumble in the Bronx.

OMG....so much has gone on I haven't been thinking clearly! Needless to say I didn't even go, but it is a long sad story

Doesn't look like I will be in the Bronx this season at all:( I am trying for tickets to Boston in Oct (care to join me, I need the support of another Yankee fan... LOL ) I thought about tickets again in NY but when I tried I still got the bird seats and decided that I really didn't want to make the trip to sit up there again, so unless I come across something better I guess I will be here.....

Fenway is a beautiful park and a great venue to see a baseball game. Though with a depleted Yankee pitching staff, I have serious doubts about my beloved Yanks making the playoffs this year.

Again, as Dave was saying, I'd like to see Arroyo or any of his Boston teammates stick up for their 'mates in the Bronx.

Same old New York thinking your better BS. I don't believe the Sox are as frightened of your team as you may think, infact from what I hear they make fun of them on a regular basis.

Layney,

I was reading an article online about Arroyo and Wakefield being in a concert at Fenway this weekend (maybe it was yesterday, not sure). I was wondering if you knew if there were any samples of his music online and if so where I could find them? I'd be curious to check it out.

I have him doing 'Everlong" by the Foo Fighters on my Real Player but now i can't find where I got it. If you google Bronson Arroyo MP3s it probably somewhere in there.

I've only heard Wakefield sing once but he wasn't too bad from what I've heard.

Jorge Posada just put one down "Pesky's Corner" with Hideki (sp?) Matsui on second . . . and over the wall. Yankees, 2-0.

I can't lose this one--I hate both teams, being a Mets' fan.

This was a good weekend. For the first time in over a year, I feel good about things... My hunches usually are pretty good too.

I liked what I saw: Mo throwing inside on Saturday, especially with a couple of pitches to Ortiz. Leiter is a Godsend, at least for now.

And how about that shot by Shef? I think it's still flying!

Maybe we'll call this the Curse of Dan Shaunessy?

And considering the "crazy things" this thread was based on, did they say last night that Bellhorn has something like 110 strikeouts in 200 at-bats?

Returning to a common theme of a poster last year: Can you feel it?

I heard a clip of Arroyo doing "Plush" last week. Sounded almost like the original.

I was sure that Leiter was going to get lit up. He must have figured out why his cutter/slider was coming in flat.

I think that Sheff's shot might have caused a caution flag at Loudon (NH) yesterday . . .

The Yankees just might have found their saviour . . .

I think the Sox got a bit of their own medicine from Saturday. When they hit Shef, that was the spark.

Yeah hopefully with your crappy pitching this won't last long. Remeber pitching is what wins you games in the end and The big Useless doesn't appear to be getting it done that way everyone thought he would.

Hey, Moose did well last night in the loss. Hack, usually when the Yanks give up only two runs, they win.

Johnson's doing well enough. He did well enough shutting down Boston this weekend.

Yeah me too :( but lately I've been hearing that Theo might not be so willing to part with him and may offer up Wade Miller instead. It's driving me nuts because one days he's traded, the next day he's not, etc...
