(Durham, NC) -- Duke University Health Systems in North Carolina has hired an independent firm to track the progress of an estimated four thousand patients involved in the surgical fluid medical mix-up last year. For as long as three years, the company will monitor the patients who underwent operations with surgical tools mistakenly cleaned in hydraulic fluid, not sterile solution. This monitoring plan is the latest in a series of initiatives undertaken by the hospital to address patient concerns. There's already an informational website and a hotline. Some former patients have also formed their own support groups apart from Duke-sponsored services.
