GERMAN PAPERS
Katrina Should be A Lesson To US on Global Warming
Seems like everything is President Bush's fault. One day after Katrina hammered the Gulf Coast, German commentators are laying into the US for its stubborn attitude to global warming and Kyoto.
Hurricane Katrina is big news for German commentators, whatever their ilk. For some, the powerful storm which slammed the Gulf Coast on Monday, is a symbol of the sort of environmental terrors awaiting the world thanks to global warming and proof positive that America needs to quickly reverse its policy of playing down climate change. For the more conservative, it is simply another regrettable natural catastrophe.

 Guess the recent record flooding in Eastern Europe was NOT the result of global warming...only hurricanes that hit the U.S. are caused by global warming, right?

What? That's an odd, illogical deduction.

What? That's an odd, illogical deduction.
When the floods happened in Eastern Europe there was no talk that they were the result of global warming. The libs are going nuts with talk of how this hurricane was caused by global warming. Every time there is a weather-related disaster in the U.S. it's the result of global warming. When they happen elsewhere it's never linked to global warming.
Catch my drift?

I tend to shy away from words like "never" and "always." Some scientists believe that global warming does fuel hurricanes, floods and the like; other scientists are more cautious. Who exactly are these "libs" who are going nuts?

Here's one that REALLY off his rocker:

So, one person's hyperbolic rhetoric justifies your statement that "the libs" are going nuts? I'm not buying it.

Well, there's also the above mentioned German newspapers who imply that the U.S. "had it comin' " by their statements. There will be more, believe me. Whenever a disaster happens it is always the U.S. that gets the blame one way or another. When the Tsunami happened people complained that the U.S. was "too slow to respond" and then they complained that we "didn't give enough" money and aid to help the victims.
Oh, by the way, how many foreign countries have offered aid to help with the Katrina cleanup?

When ever any disaster happens everyone always says hey its global warming, nevermind that we have had previous hurricanes this strong hit the mainland before the whole worry about global warming. Im not saying it doesnt exist i am just saying that there is such a thing as the normal cycle of nature and not everything is the result of global warming.

Not everyone blames global warming. Dangerous idiots like Pat Robertson and his cronies like to say that natural disasters are God's punishment for one thing or another, but usually for allowing gay men and women to live here (whether 'here' is the planet or a locality).
Didn't take long for a dangerous idiot to step forward this time, either.

Religious right group, heralded by top religious right leaders, says God destroyed New Orleans because of gays
by John in DC - 8/31/2005 03:54:00 PM
Oh yes.
And lest anyone write this off as the musings of fringe nutjobs, this group is hardly Fred Phelps.
This is a group that has been defended by scores of lead religious right organizations in just the past year, including the Southern Baptist Convention, Center for Reclaiming America (attached to D. James Kennedy), the American Family Association's AgapePress, WorldNetDaily, the men over at the Concerned Women for America, Lou Sheldon's Traditional Values Coaltion, the freepers, and more.
Here's what this darling of the religious right had to say about New Orleans:
An evangelical Christian group that regularly demonstrates at LGBT events is blaming gays for hurricane Katrina.
Repent America says that God "destroyed" New Orleans because of Southern Decadence, the gay festival that was to have taken place in the city over the Labor Day weekend.

Several, including France, Canada, the Netherlands, Honduras and others as well as NATO.

Whilst I don't like the US position on global warming, it's absolutely impossible to say whether the hurricane was caused by global warming or not...what's more interesting/shocking to me is that the most powerful country in the World failed to have a transport provision to get those who wanted out, out. That just shouldn't happen.

Uh, Brad, flooding in multiple parts of Europe have been almost an annual event over the last decade. In Spring '95 I was actually part of an evacuation when the town I was studying in was cleared because of the rising waters. They have called it global warming often in some areas, so yes, they do consider it a global issue and not just reserving that view for Katrina. The snow in the mountains melts causing the rivers to swell past safe capacity... Only in Holland is there a man-made reason suggested: The man-made canals are shrunk by man to make them faster for transport boats. That doesn't however go for the German rivers, which have been pretty much untouched since the Middle Ages.
On the other side of the religous issue:
MetroSource: (Philadelphia, PA) -- Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan made some strong remarks yesterday while speaking to several hundred people in Philadelphia. Farrakhan called on educational reform saying public schools are racist and teach white supremacy. He also stated that the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina is God's way of punishing the United States for its involvement in Iraq. Farrakhan was in Philadelphia as part of a multi-city tour to promote the October 15th Millions More Movement in Washington. The event is designed to celebrate and expand upon the Million Man March held ten years.

Shots Halt Hurricane Evacuation (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4205074.stm)
The evacuation of stranded hurricane victims from New Orleans' Superdome stadium has been suspended after shots were fired at a rescue helicopter.
A spokesman for the Louisiana ambulance service told the BBC the crowd had grown unruly and he was concerned for the safety of his staff.
He said a national guard had been shot, but he had not been seriously injured.
There are widespread reports of looting in flood-stricken New Orleans. The mayor has ordered a full evacuation.

Interesting you should ask. We're apparently blocking Canada's aid.
From Daily Kos:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/8/31/235829/261
On tonight's news, CTV (Canadian TV) said that support was offered from Canada. Planes are ready to load with food and medical supplies and a system called "DART" which can provide fresh water and medical supplies is standing by. Department of Homeland Security as well as other U.S. agencies were contacted by the Canadian government requesting permission to provide help. Despite this contact, Canada has not been allowed to fly supplies and personnel to the areas hit by Katrina. So, everything here is grounded. Prime Minister Paul Martin is reportedly trying to speak to President Bush tonight or tomorrow to ask him why the U.S. federal government will not allow aid from Canada into Louisiana and Mississippi. That said, the Canadian Red Cross is reportedly allowed into the area.
Canadian agencies are saying that foreign aid is probably not being permitted into Louisiana and Mississippi because of "mass confusion" at the U.S. federal level in the wake of the storm.

Well but every European country is doing something against the global warming, while America isn't doing anything against it. So if Europe gets flooded you still can say that THEY are doing something against the global warming while America isn't doing anything against it!!!
