I don't think who performs has anything to do with who wins. Why does Britney get nominated still puzzles me but I'm going for Christina (nobody out right now can match her vocally), Fiona (always loved her), Jill Scott
Female pop is gonna be close...Christina has the best vocals in my opinion but alot of people like Macy Gracy and Madonna has been around a long time and has never won. Some people might want to "make up for lost time" and give it to her.

Well I was dissapointed to see that there were only 2 nominations for Christina but hey it's better than none. I would have liked it better if it were for I turn to you rather than What a Girl Wants. And so Britney got 2 nominations also, oh well. That's how it goes. It seems BSB got only one where Nxync got 3 or 4. I'm happy Bon Jovi got a nomination. I can't believe Eminem got 5 nominations. Anyway had to put my 2 cents in

Does that "best vocal performance" mean that they like sing well? Because Britney... sings well but not THAT well. And Madonna... I don't think so. It kind of offends Christina that they are nominated in the same category. Just my opinion...

Jan 3rd, 2001, 12:23 PM
i dunno..Shakira and Madonna could be some competition.......
look what I found out:
"Music specials named for TV Guide Awards
NEW YORK (Billboard) - Splashy network television specials by Christina Aguilera, Marc Anthony, Britney Spears, Gloria Estefan and Elton John, are among those nominated for music special of the year in the upcoming TV Guide Awards. 'N Sync nabbed two of the 12 nominations, for "Live From Madison Square Garden" and "'Ntimate Holiday Special," in the category - one of nine new awards to be presented this year. Another new category of note is music series of the year in which Viacom's MTV and VH1 dominate with five out of eight nominated titles, including "Total Request Live" and "Behind The Music." Also nominated is PBS's "Sessions at West 54th" and ABC's "Making The Band." A panel of 115 television executives and producers chose the nominees. Winners will be determined by a public vote via ballots published in the Saturday and Jan. 13 issues of TV Guide, and on the magazine's Web site. The TV Guide Awards will be presented Feb. 24 and broadcast March 7 on Fox television."

I have to say that it is great that Christina got that 2 nominations: Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Latin Pop Album.
I feel secure that Christina will win Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, the only competition here is Macy Gray.
But, Shakira is gonna be a strong competitor for Latin Pop Album. Nonetheless, I am sure Christina will end up with the Grammy.
Does anyone know when the performers are gonna be announced?

The Dumbest Nomination goes to Oscar De La Hoya for his "Latin Pop Album".Yeah I Know Christina beat britney last year.but you never know things could turn around this year.
Erika#1fan
Jan 3rd, 2001, 01:13 PM
Ok...ok...i'm VERY happy for Christina! TWICE in a row...go girl! But uh, reality strikes...in Best Pop Vocal, believe me, they're going to give it to the person (singer) who truly shows off their singing ability in the song. Unfortunately, I Turn To You would've been a complete shoe-in for this award...but NOW, it's gonna be depicted on. Britney--I HONESTLY wouldn't worry about crap when it comes to her.
BEST LATIN ALBUM - She has a good chance at this as well...but it's definitely a cross between her and Shakira. Don't be surprised if she walks out of there empty handed February 21st, 2001 though.
As for her performing...I will be dead honest when I say, she's most likely DEFINITELY performing. What she'll be performing: What A Girl Wants, most likely, cause thats what she is nominated for.

Yes, Who Let The Dogs Out is nominated for Dance, with Lets Get Loud, by J.Lo, and Blue by Eiffel 65... I have no idea who will win this. My hopes are on Jennifer Lopez, but anyone who wins will make me happy, from those 3 I mentioned.

those stats are for billboard awards. Some really great artists are ignored by the mainstream. The grammys, however, don't overlook these artists.Look at the album of the year nominees and that explains it all.If those are the nominees for the second biggest category, then certainly any artist with modest mainstream success still has a chance.

What people doesn't understand is the the Grammy do not recognize people who sells lots of records. The Grammy Awards recognize the people who can sing. It doesn't matter if Britney sold millions of records, it doesn't matter if Mi Reflejo has done better than MTV Umplugged by Shakira, nothing of that matters.
That anyone of the nominated persons can win, I agree. But Britney isn't making the Best Female Pop tough, and though Christina's Mi Reflejo is better, and has better material than the MTV Umplugged of Shakira, anyone of them can win.
And CAguileraLover21, don't even dare to call me that. I am no closet fan of Britney. I accept I have enjoyed some of her songs, but I am not a fan of that girl. In fact, I kinda hate her. So please do not call me that again in your life, and please do not start a fight out of this. I just wrote this to make the point clear.

OK NOW I have a problem with your obsession with Britney Spears, CAguileraLover (look at the name...what the nerve)
Underestimate the power of Britney? Life is life and reality is reality...when the GRAMMYS come along, you should know by now that time and records MEAN NOTHING to this award show. ESPECIALLY after what happened last year with Best New Artist. I'm gonna be dead honest with you...Christina in BEST POP VOCAL, alone, lashes out Britney Spears. NSYNC in BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM, alone, lashes out Britney Spears. You only have to know ONE other contender in the category to know what chances a particular artist has. Britney has none...
SORRY big guy, but dance moves, Justin Timberlake, and constant headlines aren't gonna help out Miss Spears come Grammy night.

I see this stupid ass pop vocal album category now and I'll still repeat: if your album was not released between OCT '99 and SEPT '00 you cannot be eligable-NO EXCUSES.
and please stop fighting over who has talent and who doesn't.These grammy voters know what they are doing. Some grammy winners stay here forever and some eventually disappear.
Best Pop Vocal performance (I repeat) isn't about your actual voice,it's about the performance.Besides, different voices appeal to different people.

Oh...as for your writing music philosophy...NO, that's not gonna happen. "Dear Diary" and "I'm So Curious" will most likely crush Britney even more, cause those songs are horrible, let us not forget she CO-WROTE those songs...she didn't write them.
Christina has CO-WRITTEN parts of 3 different hits she's had (GIAB, WAGW, and COOB) The rap and hook in COOB, the hook in GIAB, and the re-written verses in WAGW. ALL fans should know this! :) Not to mention, you have We're A Miracle around her belt as well. Does that mean she's gonna win any? NO...

Jan 3rd, 2001, 01:48 PM
Thank you CAguileraLover...but, I also understand that BEST POP VOCAL is not about whether or not you can sing in general. It's about who gives the best performance...but still, one name alone lashes out 2 different people in that category. I'm not picking favorites here either. Plus, it's not about personal liking of one's voice, unless the majority of the board believes it's the best voice in the song...we got Britney, Christina, Joan Mitchell, Aimee (something), and Macy Gray...listen yourself to all of those songs, and you'll be able to see who is crossed out first.

I'd love madonna to win it,but,I believe U2 will get it.Plus, when their album is eligable next year,it'll probably win some too.

sadgirl, I actually want U2 to take it. I love that song. It's so smooth and listenable.
Let me just remind everyone one last time They're all opinions. As much as you guys have opinions, the Grammy people will determine it all with their opinion.

I also hope U2 performs, they'll rock the house. Yes I have 'Music' and yes I'm a big Madonna fan. She's the true epitome of a female artist. I thoroughly enjoyed 'Music' however, I still think Ray of Light is her best work to date.

I got something...has anyone seen pictures or actual footage of JC Chasez there? Well did his jacket remind you of someone's particular outfit at the VH-1 My Music Awards or am I just being funny? I know it can't be bought cause her stylists came up with that number...

hm...I'm not really sure Ericka.Jc's jacket was the last thing I was looking at ;)
~it took me a couple of weeks to get into music, but once I did I really started to love it.Ray of Light is her best album, but I dunno...
Music is a certainly a lot more fun for me to listen to.

Ray of Light is a mellow feel-good album. Music is a party album. They're both  I am absolutely in love with Don't Tell Me and What It Feels Like For A Girl.

I love those too and I also love "gone".There's just something about it."Amazing" is great too.It reminds me of "beautiful stranger" (I refuse to buy that damn sdtk. just for that song).
My fave songs from ray of light are: the power of good-bye,sky fits heaven and to have and not to hold.

I'm working on yet another web site so I'm popping in and out all day. But Madonna needs to win something. She's the Susan Lucci of the Grammys.

My favorite Music songs are: Music, Impressive Instant, Nobody's Perfect and Amazing. I also like a lot Runaway Lover. But from all of those my favorite is Impressive Instant.
About Ray of Light, my favorites: Ray of Light, The Power of Goodbye and Nothing Really Matters. My favorite: The Power of Goodbye. There's something about that song, it's adictive! I just love it.

Anyone have the "like a prayer" album?I like "til death do us part" because it's so personal (about ex-hubby sean penn).
Grammys madonna has won before: Best pop album, dance recordings,Short form video, album package, song from a movie, long form video etc.
Madonna got the grammys she deserved last year and they better keep it coming!
ps-why don't we all move to the madonna board! :p )

MY OPINION: I'm glad Christina was nominated. I think it's wonderful. I'm really hoping she has Female Vocal thing in the bad. I hate Macy Grays voice, Britney's voice is terrible, and I never really heard the rest of them. And who ever said that Christina had tough competition in this category because of Britney Spears is honestly delusional. Grammy people don't care how many records someone sold. It's vocal. Christina BEAT Britney last year, and she is going to do it again this year.
For the Latin nomination. I hope Christina wins really bad. I heard Shakira is supposed to be good though.

nsync-xtina.Wow! you love to talk about me.I was the one who said she had tough competition and i'm not delusional.
Stop assuming stuff about me because I'm honestly getting sick of it.
I didn't know you could predict the future.I throught nobody could :)
You never know things could turn around and Britney could win.I know Christina beat Britney last year.I have that on tape from last year's grammy awards.

Well the usual suspects are supposed to be there (Madonna, U2.....). Everybody knows Christina and Britney are nominated (which unlikely both are gonna win.....Aguilera might bag the latin album with only Shakira to really get the votes from her).
The Rock nominations which I think everyone knows I'm interested in showed so much disappointments that I have always expected at the grammies. I remember when Jethro Tull's Aqualung defeated the Metallica at the 1989 Grammies ......Megadeth was defeated by Tool in 1997 and now the band called Limp Bizkit is nominated and the band that everyone in the rock community thinks should have been nominated A PERFECT CIRCLE was not nominated....it is really ludicriss. The only smile on my face is seeing the mighty IRON MAIDEN (without Bruce sporting a mullet.....what a shame!) getting nominated. Pantera the bad boys from good ol Lonestar state whose majority of fans(I'm still included but was extremely disappointed with this album) didn't like the album nor the song that got nominated.
Well there goes another useless year we're the nominations and powerplay now clearly looks as the same old battleworn warhorses (Madonna, U2 ) are gonna win their respected fields.
Aguilera has a 20% chance of winning the pop nomination and a 75% of winning the Latin nod.......

Why is Christina's percent so low for the Pop nomination? I think she has a good chance of winning that.
And CAguileralover, I didn't mean you personally, I'm just said anyone who thinks that. And second, if you like Britney so much, go to her board and defend her there.
