This news item made me wonder...

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A university student from Egypt was ordered held without bond after prosecutors said they found a pilot's uniform, chart of Memphis International Airport and a DVD titled "How an Airline Captain Should Look and Act" in his apartment.

The FBI is investigating whether Mahmoud Maawad, 29, had any connection to terrorists. He is awaiting trial on charges of wire fraud and fraudulent use of a Social Security number.

...

1) whether you were the neighbor the news media mentioned was "shocked," at the allegations

2) If you've paused to reconsider just how well you really know your neighbors...

3) If this is just another of the misguided and deranged few (though you'd think by now that the deranged and misguided few would be in either short supply or completely eradicated, but they keep turning up)

That is almost as clear a blueprint as the 13 page memo Richard Clarke gave Condi Rice on 1/25/01 which laid out ways to step up the fight against Al Qaeda, and of course the August 6, 2001 Daily Briefing Memo entitled "Bin Laden Determined To Strike IN US".

It's old news, but in case you have forgotten both Clarke and the DBM were ignored.

But at least they got the Egyptian guy. I'm not sure whether I am supposed to hope he was or was not planning something.

Flory should be pleased at the speed and quickness with which you come to his defense. :D But frankly, I don't know what the He!! you are talking 'bout at least in reference to this post. And while it is true that you are usually wrong, you are at least coherent most of the time. What happened? Pull down too many cool ones while watching the games yesterday?

I am saying that the reason for the arrest - 1) student from Egypt who 2) had a pilot's uniform and 3) chart of Memphis International Airport and 4) a DVD titled "How an Airline Captain Should Look and Act" in his apartment is clearly a blueprint for terrorism, and the Feds acted expeditiously.

If they would have taken some of the real signs of impending danger as referenced in my first post and acted upon it as diligently as arresting this Egyptian fellow, maybe there would not have been a 9/11.

"They" includes Clinton, too??? :D

A blueprint for terrorism or just some pathetic nut job that liked the movie "Catch Me if You Can" a bit too much :D

Egads -- I clearly made a mistake as to location -- you're a Kentuckian not a Tennessian (sp?) ... Oh, well... Kentucky, Tennessee -- what's the difference???? :D

I sent to you because when I heard the news guy mention that this gentleman's neighbor was suprised because he thought the man arrested was a pretty cool guy, it just reminded me of your reponse to an earlier post of mine where I mentioned it was kind of hard to really know your neighbors...

Anyway, at least you know David will come running to your support :D and that has to be worth something :D

Anyway, at least you know David will come running to your support :D and that has to be worth something :DYou are talking about Northern Kentucky vs. West Tennessee, a 6 hour drive and yes very different. Also when referencing where I live Louisville is the emphasis, not Kentucky. We are not really in Kentucky you know. :D

I have confidence that if I claim to know my neighbors I would not suddenly be surprised that they showed up to be terrorists. I mentioned that I knew some Muslims, some I know well enough to make that statement and others I just don't know well enough. I wish you could experience really knowing your neighbors and not having to live in fear or paranoia about them. :)

Yes, it is nice to have david around. :redcool:
