Air America Hosts: Farrakhan Not Wrong on Levees

Two hosts at the liberal radio network Air America are defending Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan - saying he's not wrong to suspect that white people deliberately blew up the levees in New Orleans.

On Monday, Farrakhan uncorked his ugly theory, telling a North Carolina audience: "I heard from a very reliable source who saw a 25 foot deep crater under the levee breach. It may have been blown up to destroy the black part of town and keep the white part dry."

"You cannot blame people for coming up with conspiracy theories," Air America host Chuck D. said, after he was asked Thursday about the paranoid pronouncement by MSNBC's Tucker Carlson.

"They look on television and see that the government is four days late in saving people [who are] supposed to be their citizens," Chuck D. explained.

Carlson gave him a second chance to denounce Farrakhan's lunatic declaration, saying, "You're a smart guy. You know that white people didn't blow up the levees to kill black people. You've gotta know that didn't happen."

But the Air America host refused to budge, insisting instead that there was a chance Farrakhan could be right.

Here's something interesting that's been circulating on the Internet for a couple of weeks now. I have not attempted to authenticate, so take it as you will.

I find it interesting, however, because it combines timing of a terrorist act with a natural disaster. In my thinking, if Al-Queada currently had the means to pull off a domestic attack, the days following hurricane Katrina would have been the ideal time to let it rip (going with the notion that chaos on top of chaos equals major league disaster). So that the DHS is thinking along those lines is probably prudent. For example when the lights went out in LA last week, my initial thought was it's not the suitcase nuke promised, but then maybe they want to turn out the lights before they detonate the nuke (either way you look at it, would not 9/11 have been far worse if communications or the electrical grid was taken down prior to the planes ramming into the WTC? Perhaps it's giving the perpetrators too much credit...but it would make for a good novel!).

More to the point, however, is that there were many entities/individuals who were aware of the special needs of New Orleans in the face of a Hurricane, and this knowledge extended through all levels of government, from local to the state to the feds, involving multiple agencies, some directly and not so directly involved in emergency planning.

Given all that was known and forwarned, the lack of a coordinated local and state response in advance of the storm is all the more inexcusable.

As for the conspiracy theory of the left??? I don't doubt it...while there are those that feel the right has the market cornered on whackos, if one looks one can find numerous examples on the other side of the aisle.

Here's the run down on Purple Crescent II....
In October 2004, disaster planners gathered in New Orleans again for Purple Crescent II. Here's a description:

"Purple Crescent II Exercise is an exercise to test and evaluate the various agencies in Southeastern Louisiana and their ability to handle a major natural disaster such as a hurricane during a high terrorist threat environment. What happens when terrorist or would be hackers attempt to disrupt communications infrastructure concurrent with a natural disaster taking place in or around the City of New Orleans, Louisiana? The effects of a large natural disaster are already devastating as we are seeing along the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Ivan made landfall. How much worse could it be if domestic or international terrorists attempted to impede preparations before the storm, or the recovery after the storm, by utilizing cyber-terrorism? All agencies, including government, law enforcement, EMS, public health, commercial banking, petro-chemical, and private enterprises are welcome to participate in this DHS monitored and supported exercise."
