this one isn't that great. i was bored and wanted to get back into the swing of writing shorts so here it is. i'm planning another christmas short so hopefully i'll write and post it soon! enjoy!
All I Want For Christmas Is You
Harley McGuire sat in her bedroom thinking over the things that had happened her in the past few months. She was away at college and it seemed that as soon as she left, her world got turned upside down. It had only been a few short months since she had broken up with her boyfriend Aaron Carter. She didn't really want to do it but she knew that the relationship would never last while she was away at school. There were too many temptations there. She was quite literally surrounded by guys and she didn't want to be worried about having a boyfriend back home who could get jealous if he found out about her having so many guys around. Especially Aaron. He was one of the most jealous guys she knew. And she had read recently that he had a new girlfriend so she knew he had no problem moving on. She on the other hand had tried the whole dating other people thing and soon realized that all she wanted was Aaron back. None of the guys she had met quite compared to him. It was almost Christmas and she knew she'd be seeing him soon since she was going home for the holiday. She puttered around with her stereo and one of her favorite holiday songs came on.

She smiled. She loved that song so much. It had always been one of her favorites since she was little. She never gave the song's lyrics much thought before because she was always either taken or too young to fully understand what the song was trying to say. But now that she was missing Aaron, the only thing that would make her Christmas a merry one would be to have him back. She wasn't even worried about the same things she usually cared about for the holidays. Her parents had decorated the house and the tree without her. Normally she would have been furious but now it didn't even matter. Christmas just wouldn't be the same is she was alone. Nothing could make it special.

She had given it a lot of thought. She knew that it was a fetch of a wish but she couldn't help but to hope that if she wished really hard she would have her boyfriend back. Nothing else really mattered at that point. Every other gift seemed so material in comparison. She had just lost all of her Christmas spirit. Usually she dreamed of cookies, gingerbread houses, hot cocoa and nights by the fire with her family. Now she dreamed of all of those things with Aaron. It just wouldn't be Christmas without him. Nothing would have made her happier than spending Christmas Eve with him, going fake sledding with him in her backyard since it never got cold enough to snow in Florida. She hadn't compiled her usually long Christmas list. This year whenever people asked her what she wanted for Christmas she replied one simple thing: Aaron. She didn't care about the holiday at all. In years past she would create this whole Christmas spectacle for her younger siblings and cousins but she had even given that up because it just didn't bring her any sort of joy.

She looked around her room. Her roommate had hung lights and snowflakes all over the room to give it a holiday feel. She helped decorate but didn't feel very jolly. Usually Christmas was her favorite time of year but she just didn't care at all. There was nothing that could make her happy but having Aaron back in her life. Christmas was always their time. It had been since they were little kids. That was how long they had known each other. Every year they would get together at her house and bake cookies with her mom and little sister Emily. Once the cookies were done, they would decorate the shapes with little candies and icing to make them look like Christmas balls, snowflakes, snowmen and various other shapes. She would have loved nothing more than to do that again but she knew that wasn't going to happen. Of course all she had to do was call Aaron and she knew he would come over and take part in all of their usual holiday traditions but she knew it would be too hard to be with him doing their thing but not actually being with him. She couldn't handle that kind of emotional pain. She prayed that Santa would grant her ultimate wish that year and give her what she really wanted.
All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children's
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing

She decided that she was going to make the most of this holiday. She couldn't be depressed. She had to act on her wish and get it. There was no other option. She would never be happy if she didn't at least try to get what she wanted. And what she really wanted was to be with Aaron again. At that point she didn't care what she had to do to get him. She decided to call him and invite him over to the usual Christmas festivities at her house. Maybe it would remind him of all the great times they spent together and make him want her back. It was a reach but she was willing to try.
