--Aside from Mariah being #1 with "All I Want For Christmas Is You" on iTunes Top 100 Songs, the entire album, "Merry Christmas" has now reached the Top 10 on iTunes Top Albums at #5!
--From the December 19th issue of Newsweek: Grammy Loves Mariah - She might not like our calling it a comeback, but facts are facts. Most everyone considered Mariah Carey's career null and void after 2001's "Glitter" and 2002's "Charmbracelet" tanked. But the diva was vindicated last week with eight Grammy nominations, including album of the year. (She's up against Gwen Stefani, Kanye West, U2 and Paul McCartney.) Burning question: what will she wear on The Night? Our guess - not much.
--From Entertainment Weekly (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/commentary/0,6115,1139035_4_0_,00.html): Mimi's Emancipation proclamation has certainly paid off; the multi-octave singer has finally forsaken all that Glittered for real gold in the form of eight nods, including Album, Record and Song of the year. Few could argue that this hasn't been her time; the singles ''We Belong Together'' and ''Don't Forget About Us'' owned radio and MTV for the latter half of 2005. The odds of her going home emptyhanded are about as likely as her hitting the red carpet in demure Amish dress and bonnet.
--Also from Entertainment Weekly (http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,1138930_4_0_,00.html), Dec. 16th issue: It's been a grim year, with album sales down nearly 10% from 2004. But it's not all bad news. There were some notable winners. Winner: Mariah Carey - By shifting focus to The Voice and the sort of hooks that made her a '90s pop queen, she scored the comeback of the year. "Mariah has never been given enough credit for songwriting," says Universal Records prexy Monte Lipman. "She's sold over 100 million records and suddenly she's an underdog." Guess Glitter served her well after all.

--Kanye West greeted his eight Grammy nominations with typical immodesty. MTV (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1517699/20051208/carey_mariah.jhtml?headlines=true) quotes him as saying, "No disrespect, but I feel that I should win. The hardest part is that me and Mariah are up there together because our votes could cancel each other out," he said. "I need to use the Jedi mind trick, you know, when you're eating a sandwich and someone says, 'Yo, I'm hungry,' and you say, 'Well, I would give you the other half, but then I would still be hungry, so why not just let me eat?' So Mariah, let me get some and we can celebrate together."
--On 106 & Park last night, Pharrell called in to talk about his nominations. They pointed out he was nominated twice in "Album of the Year" - for Mariah's album and for Gwen's album. They asked him which project was more of a challenge. He didn't really answer the question, but he did say he loves Mariah and said they would laugh about people thinking she was done. He said he couldn't believe people would write-off someone like her and also said she's a cool person.
--On the new episode of MTV's Made called "Central Idol," a girl named Nadia wants to be a contestant for her High School edition of American Idol. During a session, her made coach is having her yell out lines to boast her confidence and one of her lines she has to repeat is "I'm Nadia and I'm on fire! I will sing like Mariah!"
--On the Martha Stewart Show, Martha talked about her two Holiday CDs debuting at #4 and #6 on the Billboard charts, and then she said, "Look out Mariah! Lookout Madonna!"
--On VH1's "Celebrity Super Spenders 2005," Mariah's birthday party from earlier this year was discussed. They talked mainly about her cake and how much it cost, and they showed several nice clips of her from appearances throughout this year. Mariah's main segment comes during the first 10 minutes of the program, which airs many times during the month of December.
