--From IFPI (http://www.ifpi.org/site-content/platinum/platinum_intro.html): Mariah Carey's comeback album, "The Emancipation of Mimi" passes the million mark in Europe for the first time since its April release. Mariah has been releasing albums since 1990, but this critically acclaimed offering is her first since 2003's The Remixes. The American songstress has just received eight Grammy nominations Stateside, where her single "We Belong Together" is the most played song on the airwaves this year.
--Roger Friedman, Fox News (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,179352,00.html) entertainment writer, names Mariah's "The Emancipation of Mimi" as his 6th Top Album of 2005. Here's what he has to say.
"6. "The Emancipation of Mimi" - Mariah Carey
Just the fact that Mariah was able to come back from her "Glitter" disaster is news enough. "We Belong Together" was the song of the summer, and now an extended version of the album has yielded "Don't Forget About Us." Benny Medina has to get credit, too. And Randy Jackson, who most people now think of as being from "American Idol," is Mariah's secret weapon."
--For her albums of the year, Jasmine Dotiwala of The Voice (http://www.voice-online.net/content.php?show=8197&type=4) picks Kanye West's and not surprisingly, "... the other album of the year came from vocalist extraordinaire Mariah Carey who also deserves 'biggest comeback of the year' alongside her homeboy big Snoop Dogg. Every other artist that's been through the fire has rarely risen phoenix-like to break records, with an album so on top of this year's female game, it's nearly a miracle. From a few heavy years of hateration set up by her former contemporaries, to a mass media campaign to kill her career and spirit, her faith in herself and God came through for her and she’s living proof that you can 'make it through the rain' to conquer all."
--Mariah's "Get Your Number" was recently featured on "Best of Making of 2005," a special presentation by MTV Asia where viewers were given an inside look at the best moments from "Making of The Video" this year. The show was hosted by two members of the Black Eyed Peas.
--"All I Want For Christmas Is You" is used in the official Road Traffic Christmas security campaign in Spain. It is a new safety advertisement sponsored by the government that is being played on Spanish TV urging citizens to buckle up and drive safely this holiday season.
