Rookie Paul Dana died yesterday after he crashed in a practice lap before this weekend's Indy race.

I'm not an auto racing fan. Seems to me part of the reason some people watch is for the crashes. After all, a post-game highlight reel doesn't seem complete on SportsCenter without a couple of crashes.

I do have friends who are fan, primarily of Indy and Formula One. He told me that crashes were part of the reason Indy of late has been being forced out of the country. Last year's non-Indy 500 was a joke, thanks to tire requirements.

So where does Indy stand? NASCAR I will say looks to at least have some safety, just because of the structure of the cars. But Indy...

As a non-fan, I'm put out by the idea that they still raced yesterday. It sounds like the tradition is to name the curve after the deceased, so there will now be the "Paul Dana Curve." So are we teaching kids to grow up to be like the dead?
