This one made quite a bit of noise when it was released. Must have something to do with the oh so cheery subject matter.

I just watched it for a second time and didn't enjoy it as much. I think my fandom as a manic Pattonhead may have colored my initial judgment. The film is slow, some of the acting is choppy, and there are scenes that are quite distasteful. Oddly enough, I still found myself enjoying it. It's visually captivating and the story is just peculiar enough to hold my interest. Plus, some of the deadpan humor is just classic.

It's a flawed film, but it does it's job as a moden-day noir.
