Patially because this board has kinda sucked today and partially because of a family i met today. I met a family at a preschool today that named their kids: Beach, Tide, Waver, and Reefer. REEFER! For a child. Now thats just wrong.
I know some other kids that are Canyon, Forest, and Nature. The one on the way is to be named Ocean.
Where do people come up with this stuff?

This thread reminds me of the Phoenix kids; River, Summer, Joaquin..whos real name is Leaf or something.. And the poor, poor Zappa kids! Bob Geldof and Paula Yates/Michael Hutchence didn't do a whole lot better either.

In grade school there were a couple of strange ones.... Sevda, Star, Adassa, and coming in at number one... Badger. Yes, that is correct. A heavily built nocturnal mammal, typically having a gray and black coat and a white-striped head. I think his parents were on drugs.

From what I have understood Joaquin is his real name, but he changed it to Leaf because he wanted a nature name like his siblings, and then later changed it back to Joaquin when they left the cult or whatever it was.

I thought of the same thing when I saw the thread.
I like the Phoenix kids names.
Joaquins name however IS really Joaquin, but when he was young he hated that no one could pronounce his name, and all his brothers and sisters had like nature names - so he told everyone to call him Leaf. For example, in Parenthood and alot of his early works, he is credited as Leaf Phoenix and then when he came back to film in To Die For he took Joaquin back.
What a hot name.

I love unique names, granted, some parents can take it to the extreme though. That's why we chose Veronica for our daughter, not too many Veronica's in the world and the chances of there being another Veronica in her class is pretty small.
Of course, she was born before the group, The Veronicas, came onto the scene.

I was going to say that. I was a big fan of River's back in the day and I remembered reading about "Leaf" changing his name from Joaquin because he wanted to be more like his siblings.

Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter Apple, which is cute.
However, Shannyn Sossamon has WEIRD taste in names. She named her child Audio Science. That's just mean.

parents are definitely finding more unique names to name their children..my name is cherise and i never seem to find too many with it but i was doing student teaching in a kindergarten classroom this semester and some of the names of the kids were: Zalea, Mackenna, and Hiyori [he - yo- dee]. but i like the uniqueness of names, i liked growing up and not having more than one cherise in my classes lol.
