No need to check your eyes if you seem to be seeing diva Mariah Carey in triplicate. The pop/R&B icon will appear at three area venues in the next eight days.

Carey is responsible for such timeless hits as "Hero," and she's racked up her share of Grammys, too, including nods in 1990 as best new artist, and best female pop performance in 1990 and 2005 for "Vision of Love" and "We Belong Together," respectively. She also won best contemporary R&B album for "The Emancipation of Mimi," her blockbuster 2005 comeback.

There's a smidgen of hip-hop in Carey's game these days. She has appeared on albums by Krayzie Bone, Funk Master Flex, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes and Freeway. Dancehall star Sean Paul will join Carey for the Philly show.

Five years ago, Mariah Carey was making headlines for what was termed "an emotional and physical breakdown," around the same time her quasi-autobiographical film clunker, Glitter, seemed to kick her career into the gutter. But the saucy songbird morphed into the Comeback Queen of '05 with The Emancipation of Mimi, a CD that went platinum nine times over, becoming the year's top-selling disc and nabbing three Grammys in the process. Now, the mighty Mariah is positioned as the only active recording artist with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 No. 1 hits (she has 17 so far).

For her first tour in three years, "The Adventures of Mimi" - Mimi being her nickname - Carey's going for well-earned celebratory drama: Lots of costume changes, dazzling sets, and the roof-raising vocal gymnastics that make her the flashy diva she is. Or as her fans like to say, "Whitney who?"

Mariah Carey with Sean Paul, Wachovia Center, 3601 S. Broad St., 9 tonight, $19.50-$129.50, 215-336-3600, www.wachoviacenter.com (http://www.wachoviacenter.com/).
