Bush on Democrats: 'They will raise your taxes'

Thu Sep 21, 2006 3:21pm ET

TAMPA, Florida (Reuters) - President George W. Bush charged on Thursday that Democrats would raise taxes if put in control of the U.S. Congress, turning to a familiar campaign theme as he seeks to stave off Republican losses in November.

"If they get control of the House of Representatives, they'll raise your taxes. It'll hurt our economy. And that's why we're not going to let them get control of the House of Representatives," Bush said.

The president's blast was new language for the final seven weeks of the campaign ahead before the November 7 elections and aides said he plans extensive travel to try to help Republicans.

Bush rolled out the attack at an event that raised $450,000 for Republican Gus Bilirakis, running for a House seat held by his father, Rep. Mike Bilirakis, who is retiring after 12 terms in Congress.

----

Bush has been pushing for making tax cuts set in 2001 and 2003 permanent. His 2001 tax cut package slashed individual income tax rates and set a phased-in reduction in estate taxes, while the centerpiece of the 2003 package was cuts in dividends and capital gains taxes.

i do agree on alot of levels, but my friends parents made 600,000 one year and had to pay 45% of that into taxes and i think that is too much of a percentage for anyone to pay into it. while they do have advantages and such i dont think its fair to pay that much.

And just curious, what is their CoL?

I look at the life I lead and the money I make and I could be very happy pocketing over $300k a year... And there are charities I could do a lot better for than I do now with that money, so I'd still be "losing" more than that 45%.

I honestly have no idea what it is, im not that close with the girl or her parents to know. but i do know that while they are very good with money, they dont do without really either. my friend has been known to have the $500 concert seats and such for elton john. but the mom has put her entire family (all kids and brothers and sisters) through college. so while i dont know exactly what they spend on stuff or their charitably donations i know she does do good with it.

The Dems will raise taxes...and when that's not enough---they'll raise taxes again...and when that's not enough---they'll raise taxes again...and when that's not enough...

Please explain to me how we are going to pay for the wars that we are fighting.

Through economic growth...

Is that federal, state and local taxes combined? The highest federal rate is 38%, I believe.

Congratulations! You have inadvertantly hit on one of the main arguments Republicans use for tax cuts. Having the "rich" pay huge amounts of taxes makes it so there is less incentive to get rich. People feel why should I work hard and be successful when the government is going to take half of it away from me? This hurts entreprenuerism(sp?) and that hurts the economy.

entrepreneurism.

if anyone has that "why should i work hard and be successful" mindset they are clearly not the type of person who actually could work hard and become successful. i hope and pray my hard work will pay off and i will become sucessful enough for the government to take that much money from me. it means i can put my kids through school and buy the bikes and have a decent house in a nice neighborhood. oh yeah and that little thing called self respect and pride.

if this is a main arguments the republicans have, it is even more apparent they are completely ignorant and have poor logic. while im know certain people have these thoughts exist, but anyone i have met like this has been a complete degenerate anyway.

Yep, you've hit the nail on the head, Richie! I don't want to pay taxes, so I think I'll just stay destitute.

You really are an idiot, you know. I don't usually make personal attacks on people in here, but you really ARE an idiot.
