In a recent interview with Gladys Knight, The Detroit News reports that Mariah was briefly mentioned:

As polished as she was, Knight benefited from the Motown star-making machinery. She says that a behind-the-scenes Motown legend gave her the best advice for preserving her voice.

"I used to get chronically hoarse," says Knight. "Mr. (Maurice) King said you have to make sure to find a range. This is a tip for kids -- find your range, OK? If your top note is a B flat, you can hit B flat all night in your natural voice but once you start going up to that C and that D above your natural range, you will eventually get hoarse."

"So many people sing outside their range. You take Mariah (Carey), she has a great range, but she stays hoarse all the time. Now that could be from a lot of things, I don’t know what her social life is, but you have to take care of that."

I don't think she knows anything about Mariah's voice Mariah has a 5 octave range and she knows how to use it.

Okay what does having a social life have to do with Mariah's voice?
