NYS Budget

10/29/2006

(WROC-TV)

New York State is on track for an over $1 billion surplus for the 2006-2007 fiscal year. The mid-year report is due out Monday. It points to better than expected economic growth and lower spending levels for the surplus. The extra money will head to several funds, including the state's Rainy Day Reserve fund.

The surplus also gives state reserves a boost. The Governor's office reports over $3 billion in total reserves.

Look at this! More "better than expected" economic news... :]

In New York state. One state. No one here is disputing that some parts of the economy are doing well, but others are not doing so well. Of course, you only see what you want to see, Richie.

From the NY Sun:

Even with this fiscal year's increased revenues, the state faces budget gaps of $2.4 billion and $4.5 billion for the next two years, she said. That is down from estimates of $3.2 billion and $5.4 billion.

By the way, maybe it should be pointed out it's a predominantly Democratic state, even if the governor is Republican?

Yes, but the NYC transit system is apparently run by liberal Democrats. ;)
