UN downgrades man's impact on the climate

Mankind has had less effect on global warming than previously supposed, a United Nations report on climate change will claim next year.

The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says there can be little doubt that humans are responsible for warming the planet, but the organisation has reduced its overall estimate of this effect by 25 per cent.

In a final draft of its fourth assessment report, to be published in February, the panel reports that the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has accelerated in the past five years. It also predicts that temperatures will rise by up to 4.5 C during the next 100 years, bringing more frequent heat waves and storms.

The panel, however, has lowered predictions of how much sea levels will rise in comparison with its last report in 2001.

Climate change sceptics are expected to seize on the revised figures as evidence that action to combat global warming is less urgent.

Scientists insist that the lower estimates for sea levels and the human impact on global warming are simply a refinement due to better data on how climate works rather than a reduction in the risk posed by global warming.

One leading UK climate scientist, who asked not to be named due to the sensitivity surrounding the report before it is published, said: "The bottom line is that the climate is still warming while our greenhouse gas emissions have accelerated, so we are storing up problems for ourselves in the future."

Phew!!! :o I'm glad they decided to cut us a little slack...even if it's only 25%. Maybe next year they'll change it to 50%...

And the sea levels aren't rising as much! Better hang on to that beach house afterall...

I don't get it, Richie. Do you believe the IPCC or don't you? Most of the folks on your side of the chicken little sky is falling story have nothing but disdain for the UN and the IPCC. Surely you're not being hypocritical now by citing this report to beef up your point, are you?

You see, this is how you guys really feel about the IPCC, isn't it? From a NewsMax story called, Cool It, Mr. President – Don’t Swallow the Globaloney

The U.N.-appointed Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - a 3,000-member panel allegedly composed of climate experts - is cited by the global warming propagandists as proof that the world's scientific community is solidly behind the global warming hypothesis. When the group issued their latest report hysterically proclaiming that global warming is even worse than they forecast it would be in their 1995 report, Britain's Times said the IPCC is composed of "3,000 of the world's top meteorologists."

The fact is, the membership of the IPCC is composed of people from many disciplines - some of the so-called scientists are reported to be political scientists, for example. Their output is accepted as gospel truth by the media and many of the world's politicians, yet real climatologists have expressed nothing but scorn for their work.
