I'm Catholic myself, but Notre Dame gets on my nerves. I'll rephrase that. I resent ND. Because they are an independent school, they keep all of the money from bowl games. ND going to a meaningless bowl game, I can live with that since the money they will make from that would not be very much. I hope they never play in a BCS game ever again. Also, ND has it's own TV deal. Does the ND athletic dept. really need all of that money? NO. It is a private school and it's one of the most expensive schools in the nation to attend. The AD makes enough money as it is from tuition and donors. I hope ND has a losing season every year so they will lose their TV deal and be forced to join the Big Ten.
In other words, I hope ND gets slaughtered tonight. That will give N.O. another thing to cheer about with all that has happened.

If you're going to focus on money, you are missing a great storyline to this. Notre Dame as you point out is one of the, if not the, richest college sports system that also has one of the biggest fan bases. As such, this game will hopefully be a boon for New Orleans as the Irish and their fans spend money in a city which still desprately needs it.

That's great, Dave.
As long as Notre Dame loses! :p
I'm also Catholic, and I HATE Notre Dame! I know that's not how it's supposed to be, but I do. My husband had some graduate classes with a guy who had been an RA at Notre Dame, and this guy was telling us once about a Saturday night that they were playing USC on the West Coast, and instead of rescheduling the Saturday night Masses, they just cancelled them outright. Now, I may be wrong, but if you're going to consider youself one of the premier Catholic universities in the world, you ought to put a higher priority on Mass than on football.
Also, one day in NYC this past summer, I saw a guy with a shirt that was made for us, North Star. It said "Not all Catholics root for Notre Dame."

to someone with only a marginal interest in college football it would appear that Notre Dame (who convinvingly lost all three games it played against top 10 teams this season) replaced a more deserving team (Auburn - who beat Florida this season) in a BCS bowl game and proved it had no business playing with the big boys.
Even Charlie Weiss admitted they are not an elite team.

I turned against ND with they declined to join the Big Ten.
