Cold, Snow in Parts of Southern California

LOS ANGELES, January 12, 2007 - A cold snap hit the Southland amid forecasts of record or near-record low temperatures Friday and Saturday night in metropolitan, coastal and valley areas of Los Angeles County.

Post-midnight lows early Friday included 16 in Woodland Hills and 8 in some mountain areas of Los Angeles County, including Warm Springs and Sandberg.

The National Weather Service issued a Freeze Warning, effective from 1 a.m. Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday, for the Santa Monica Recreational Area and the San Fernando, San Gabriel and Santa Clarita valleys -- areas where a "hard freeze" was expected .

A Freeze Warning is issued when temperatures are expected to dip to 28 degrees or lower for a period of two hours or more.

NWS forecasters said near-record low temperatures are possible Friday and Saturday night in downtown Los Angeles and other metropolitan and coastal areas of the city, and record lows are possible in the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. The forecast for the Antelope Valley was for record or near- record lows.

Yep. Here come those pockets of cold weather that will accompany global warming, just as they've been predicted.

I woke up to the snow today, and was telling my friend in Ohio about it and she said we havent gotten snow yet this year.

must be some sort of global climate change....hm. odd.

You're in the Bay Area, right? Dang, I'm heading up there tomorrow and was hoping it might be a little warmer than it is here.

Im in CT and this winter we have yet to have snow, about a week ago it was actually around 60!!!! that was insane, i wish that weather was still around. I hate the snow so im not complaining. God Bless Global Warming...lol.

Now to be serious for a moment(although i did seriously love the 60 degree weather) Global Warming is a problem, it is real, and it does not just mean hotter weather it means that since the planet itself is getting warmer it changes everything and creates wacky weather, like extreme cold or extreme heat etc...

This also does not mean that global warming is so horrible it will destroy the world....at least not any time soon. It does mean that the weather patterns as we know it are changing and will continue to change. What once got a lot of rain will not get as much what got little rain might now get a lot. It willl make things a bit more difficult for people because the things they have been used to are different and they are facing newer situations they didnt face before. Now we could just say, adapt. For the most part the way things are now are ideal, so it will probably be good to try to maintain global warming gasses at current and reduced levels. Is it as bad as liberals say? no....but it exists, and it is a problem and we should be working on solutions.

Although i hope the solution includes no snow or cold for Connecticut.

If this is "global warming", Im not complaining yet!

Now other folks can get a taste of weather that they are not used to and see how it feels! I hate cold mornings, having to go outside and start the car up for 10 minutes or more to get it warm. Although right now its a warm night, with rain, maybe flooding rains.

And besides, I thought I read somewhere that "global warming" would not create different weather patterns, these fluctuations are normal, but that gw would actually take the weather that you are used to in your area and simply make it more severe, not entirely different weather for your area!

Maybe the actual definition for gw has not been decided?

Since there's been no such phenomenon in recorded history, that it probably correct, Chad. We've never seen global warming firsthand, so any projections about the specific results are probably based on computer models.
