Landmark Legal Foundation Nominates Rush Limbaugh for 2007 Nobel Peace Prize

Limbaugh called 'the foremost advocate for freedom and democracy in the
world today'

LEESBURG, Va., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Landmark Legal
Foundation today nominated nationally syndicated radio talk show host Rush
Limbaugh for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
Limbaugh, whose daily radio show is heard by more than 20 million
people on more than 600 radio stations in the United States and around the
world, was nominated for the prestigious award for his "nearly two decades
of tireless efforts to promote liberty, equality and opportunity for all
humankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin.
These are the only real cornerstones of just and lasting peace throughout
the world," said Landmark President Mark R. Levin.
"Rush Limbaugh is the foremost advocate for freedom and democracy in
the world today," explained Levin. "Everyday he gives voice to the values
of democratic governance, individual opportunity and the just, equal
application of the rule of law -- and it is fitting that the Nobel
Committee recognize the power of these ideals to build a truly peaceful
world for future generations."
The Nobel Peace Prize, which is given by a committee of the Norwegian
Storting (the Norwegian Parliament), was created by inventor Alfred Nobel
in his will in 1896 to be given to the individual or organization who
"shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations,
for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding of
peace congresses." The first Nobel Peace Prize was awarded in 1901 to Henry
Dunant and Frederic Passy.

Regis left out this little tidbit:

Founded in 1976, Landmark Legal Foundation is the leading conservative public interest law firm in the United States. Rush Limbaugh serves as an unpaid member of Landmark's Board of Advisors

And according to the Nobel Prize, there are only certain qualified nominators. Somehow, I don't think this group is one of them.

Qualified Nominators – The Nobel Peace Prize
The right to submit proposals for the Nobel Peace Prize, based on the principle of competence and universality, shall by statute be enjoyed by:

1. Members of national assemblies and governments of states;
2. Members of international courts;
3. University rectors; professors of social sciences, history, philosophy, law and theology; directors of peace research institutes and foreign policy institutes;
4. Persons who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize;
5. Board members of organizations who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize;
6. Active and former members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; (proposals by members of the Committee to be submitted no later than at the first meeting of the Committee after February 1) and
7. Former advisers appointed by the Norwegian Nobel Institute.

The candidates eligible for the Nobel Peace Prize are those nominated by qualified persons who have received an invitation from the Nobel Committee to submit names for consideration. No one can nominate himself or herself.

Oh yes, and there is this, from Regis's link:

Professor Ole Danbolt Mjos
Chairman,
Norwegian Nobel Institute
Henrik Ibsens Gate 51
NO-0255
Oslo, Norway

Dear Dr. Mjos:
Landmark Legal Foundation herewith submits the name of Rush Limbaugh as
an unsolicited nomination for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

Which directly violates the rules of the Prize, which says this:
The candidates eligible for the Nobel Peace Prize are those nominated by qualified persons who have received an invitation from the Nobel Committee to submit names for consideration.

What a crock.

Not that I have read all of that, but what the hell has he done for peace???

Nothing. He basically has nominated himself, or had this foundation nominate him. But, it's not even legit. It's an unsolicited nomination, meaning... well, it has no meaning whatsoever.

Just curious how he is going to explain this to the public on his radio program... or cleverly dodge the issue. Nixon could never even have held a candle to Rush in terms of deception! (However there are a few who come close but I wont name any names)

The PR Newswire by the way is a paid service. PR in the biz is Press Release, which we use where I work for the releases and to get information for daily stories from companies paying to get their information out. They paid for a press release, which means it isn't a news story, it's a press release from Landmark Legal.

Regis, face it. Your hero is a self-aggrandizing drug addict who isn't interested in peace, but only ratings and lining his pockets. The fact that he is trying to use one of the most prestigious honors humankind can bestow is particularly low-rent.
