Not bad, but not very good.
That's my veredict. I think it was the ending that killed the whole thing for me.
And definitely not deserving of all the Oscar/guild and critics nominations/awards...
Sideways this is not.
Still, it was half-enjoyable and definitely had its moments. Maybe I'll have to re-watch it later on.
Maybe it doesn't help that what I really wanted to see tonight was The Devil Wears Prada but they were all rented.
Maybe I should've rented Miami Vice.
Maybe LMS just wasn't for me.
Who knows?

I really like "Little Miss Sunshine", but as you say, 'tis no "Sideways". It really shouldn't be nominated for Best Picture, if only because there's no way it would win anyway, so the whole thing is a c0ck-tease to the hopeful directors.
As for "Notes on a Scandal", I posted my review in your thread on Xtina's Page.

But that's the thing, LMS is winning left and right all over the place! When it won the PGA many people thought it actually might have a chance at Picture at the Oscars.
And I don't remember posting a NOAS thread in the XA board. Let me try and put together my thoughts and memories...

OK, no, it wasn't you. It was that sunoftheskye person. I just remember your post.
P.S. That sounded like I was a terrorist or something. I'm sorry. :(

I loved LMS. I think the key to it was seeing it with an audience who had no idea what was going to happen. The trailers, especially the one for the video, give away too much. And I like the end much better than any of the deleted endings.

It's such a fun and charming movie. I could have done without the asinine steal-the-corpse sub-plot, but I thought they really captured the essence of your typical American family, without getting too hokey or sentimental. It was the perfect mix of comedy and drama. Nothing groundbreaking but much better than most of the crap I saw last year. I have no problem with it getting a Best Pic nod, if only because it’ll keep encouraging the Academy to let that sleeper tiptoe into the mix with the big boys. I agree about the ending. The alternatives were all bad ideas. The actual ending found the right note.

I didn't like the stealing the corpse part but it did set up that great line about grandpa in the trunk of the car.
I really liked it that when the father and the slimy business guy were talking by the pool, nobody was thrown into the pool.

It wasn't as great as I expected, but it was still pretty good. There were some stupid parts, like the corpse part, but when she was asked where her grandpa was now and she said "In the trunk of our car" I lost it, so that made it worth it.
And the little girl was just so darn cute and she was a very kinky girl, so you couldn't help but smile!
