Limbaugh returns to football analysis: "They're dumping on" Grossman "because he is a white quarterback"
On the February 5 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh, responding to media coverage of Chicago Bears quarterback Rex Grossman, stated "they're dumping on this guy -- Rex Grossman -- for one reason, folks, and that's because he is a white quarterback." Limbaugh later insisted in conversation with a caller that, "they just want this guy not to do well 'cause he's a white quarterback," and that Grossman was "targeted for destruction." The Bears lost to the Indianapolis Colts 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI.
Limbaugh was forced to resign from his position as a football analyst for ESPN in 2003 after he claimed that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was overrated because "the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well." The following season, McNabb led his team to the Super Bowl.

I will agree that it seems like many in the media can't wait to see Grossman fail, but Rush's absurd leap in logic is laughable.

I guess Peyton is black?
While I believe Grossman is getting unfair criticism for the Super Bowl (his picks came when he had to take chances), the reason he is getting the reception he is is because he set himself up for it.
Or is a zero quarterback rating something to be proud of, Rush?

and that helps the stereotype that republicans are racist.
way to go Rush.

Granted, I don't follow football...but aren't most quarterbacks white?

As a general rule, yes. But we're seeing more and more black ones all the time...

Let's see: This year who were the African-American signal-callers:
Donovan McNabb (Rush's favorite)
Daunte Culpepper
Cleo Lemon
Steve McNair
David Garrard
Vince Young
Michael Vick
May be more, and a few only played part of the season due to injury (either suffered or because someone else was injured). That's seven above, with two on the same team, in a league of 32 teams.

I will say this when people started attacking Donovan i think it might have been last season, Rush Limbaugh was one of the few who came to defend him. The way Rush said what he said was wrong but some parts I think were not so off base. He said that people were hyping McNabb to be better than he actually is because they really want to see him succeed because he is an african american quarterback in a league where that has not been seen often enough. Once Donovan wasnt delivering to these huge expectations people started turning on him. There is definetly some truth to that statement.
This last one has no sanity to it, I want Rex Grossman to fail because i have this viceral hatred of him in my gut, makes no sense but I just dont like the guy for some reason.

I give little credence to anything Rush has to say. He's made it very clear that his show and his opinions are all about the money, anything to keep his listeners tuning in.

I think Rush rushed to defend McNabb because he knew better than to open that can of worms again...
Besides, I think last season ('05) isn't worth discussing because of TO...

I feel the same about Tom Brady too :) But that one has some logic to it on my part. I hate the Patriots almost as much as I hate the Yankees. They had promised to move to Connecticut but they turned their backs on the deal at the very last possible moment. They played us like a fiddle to get a better deal in Mass. So yeah I hate the patriots and along with it anyone that plays for them.

That's news to me, I hadn't heard about the possible move. Sorry to hear about that. I don't know why the Patriots would leave Foxboro though, as they've been there for years.
