i remember it was if it were yesterday.
i was halfway through the fellowship of the ring when some guy i barely talked to was like oh damn i looove that book i read the whole fellowship in an 8 hour call ride (clearly the man was an idiot) and then he randomly tells me what happens at the end of the rotk. it was absolutely horrifying, i remember being speechless.
luckily for me though, tolkien is such a good writer that it was still one of the best fantasy novels i have ever read
