Griffith Park is the largest park in the Los Angeles area and one of the largest in the country, covering 4,210 acres. Yesterday, a fire began in the steep hills at the center of the park (the end spine of what, farther west, is the Santa Monica Mountain range, which extends out to the beach), and the hot winds and low humidity of the week, combined with the drought of the area, made for quite a burn.
I live north of the park, away from the brunt of the action, but as things were still pretty active in the evening, I ventured a couple of miles south to get some shots of how things were last night.
