Yesterday, Britney Spears released another open letter to her fans via her website. As touching and well-adjusted as Brit's words appeared to Us, noted expert Dr. Drew Pinsky wonders if it might actually point to some of her unaddressed issues.
Check out his comments below, and find out what might be on the horizon for Spears.
Britney wrote: "Recently, I was sent to a very humbling place called rehab. I truly hit rock bottom. Till[sic] this day I don't think that it was alcohol or depression. I was like a bad kid running around with ADD."
Dr Drew says: "You cannot be admitted to a chemical dependency center in California without meeting the criteria, without being chemically dependent."
Britney: "This letter is to not place blame on anyone, although I do see the world with a completely different set of eyes now...I think the whole problem was letting too many people into my life. You never know another persons[sic] intentions or what another person wants. I feel I was too open and looking for answers when I had it all to begin with. I have had to cut so many people out of my life."
Dr. Drew: "That's addict thinking. Addicts blame people, places and things for their behavior. The fact that she is not taking rigorous responsibility for her actions means she is in a bad place for recovery."
Britney: "I feel like some of the people in my life made more of some issues than was necessary. I also feel like they knew I was beginning to use my brain for a change and cut some ties, so they wanted to be in more control of my life than me."
Dr. Drew: "I know she's trying, but her declaration that she won't follow directions is a bad sign. The first thing addicts need to do is take direction. They need to turn off their brains, because all their decisions are colored by the disease of addiction."

Hmm. I was pleasantly surprised by her letter and how candid and well-thought out it was. But I've always thought Dr Drew was a really smart and insightful guy, so his points are really interesting.
Thanks for posting this :)

Why do people always have to twist her words around? She's just trying to be and speak her mind. Even when she doesn't say anything they make ***** up. It's a lose-lose situation for her whenever she tries to talk to her fans. That's who it's for in the end. I don't see this person giving her any credit for writing to her fans when she obviously has so many other responsibilities. Taking care of her children, making an album and on top of that sitting down and writing letters to her fans. How many other artists/celebrities do that? Not many.

Dr. Drew makes some good points, my reaction to her letter was similar. She "was sent" to rehab, yet she says she isn't playing the victim. Promises is a rehab center for addiction, she obviously qualified and is darn lucky they took her back after she left the first time. I don't see any gratitude or responsibility, just a desire to cut everyone out of her life that knows the real story and isn't willing to go along with whatever she wants.
I wish her the best, but I don't she's anywhere close to recovered yet.

She didn't leave Promises the first time. She was allowed out for the day to visit with her lawyers for her custody hearings and all. One of Promises assistants went with Britney. The media got it all wrong saying she left rehab twice. The first one she visited was Crossroads. Keyword is visited. She never was checked in to that one. But the media made everyone believe that she was checked into it.

I'm uncertain if Britney has any addiction to alcohol or drugs. To be honest, I don't know. But in all honesty, I think that in this particular case, this Dr. Drew dude is perhaps overanalyzing the whole letter. I don't know this Dr. at all, how respected he is, or what he has written/analyzed before, so my first thought was that "here we go again. Another pointless Britney article."
Like there wasn't enough about Britney in the media already.
In addition, I have observed that majority of papers and magazines are nowdays referring to Britney as "recovering addict". If she never had any addiction, this kind of labelling is extremely harsh. If she had an addiction, she's still in denial about it.

I was following the situation very closely and basically this is incorrect. Both times she left without permission. The first time she boarded a plane coach after begging them to let her on. The second time she was in LA and went over to Kevin's house, shortly before the umbrella incident.
Promises is a rehab center for addiction, you can look it up if you like. It's not for people running around like they have ADD, it's not for general personal problems, it's for addiction. Obviously people close to her felt that is where she should be, and obviously she qualified to be there.

So for 3 months Britney was addicted to alcohol? I don't get it. That's more of an abuser than anything.
Lindsay, and Paris are addicted.
She never checked into Crossroads and that's a fact. She was visiting the facility to see which one would suit her. When people found out only 24 hours after she went there (to look at the facility) it was blown out of proportion saying Britney checked in and all that stuff.
There is proof of Britney with her assistant person going to the offices to talk with her lawyers about the custody hearing. They do give leeway for personal endeavors if they are extremely important. (there was someone with her obviously, just like there was someone with her when she went to church, or to AA meetings.) Remember the pictures of her with writing on her hands? The assistant from Promises was right beside her.
