China is building two large power stations every week

China is now building about two power stations every week, the top climate change official at the UK Foreign Office, John Ashton, has said.

He said there was no point blaming China for rising global CO2 emissions.

Rich nations had to set an example of low-carbon development for China to follow, Mr Ashton told the BBC.

His statement came as a new report suggested that China may have already become the world's biggest polluter - much earlier than expected.

The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency said China's CO2 emissions had risen by 9% last year, compared to 1.4% in the US.

This statement here shows what a bunch of hooey all this global warming crap is. It's OK for China to pollute, the "rich nations" have to set the example for them.

Translation: We need to handicap the "rich countries" so that China can catch up to them. In other words, we want Communism/Socialism to overtake Capitalism as the new way of doing business.

Ok, ol' Reeg has some questions for the enlightened global warming experts:

1. Won't all of China's "dirty" power plants offset all of the rich nations "clean" ones? Won't we still have the same amount of GHGs in the atmosphere?

2. Wouldn't it be easier to build those new plants in China with modern clean-burning technology now rather than to go back and retrofit them later? That is, if you even plan on retrofitting them at all...which I doubt.

3. China's CO2 emissions are growing at 9% vs. 1.4% in the U.S. Seems like China is wiping out all the gains the U.S. is making and then some. I mean, this is global warming, right? All that Chinese CO2 is going to make it's way around the world, it's not going to stay in China, right? That's going to affect the world not just China, right?

4. Global warming is a catastrophe of monumental proportions that we have to deal with---NOW!!! If this is such a crisis, why does China get a pass? We don't have time to let them play catchup. We need to act NOW!!! China needs to help now! The Polar Bears are depending on them. That Greenland glacier is melting (some of Greenland's other glaciers are growing), there is no time to waste. China must act NOW!!!
