I never knew how much I loved air conditioning, till mine broke. :(

I have central air and it broke yesterday. The first night was not so bad, I turned the ceiling fan on high speed and plugged some box fans in through-out the house and slept almost naked. But tonight is brutal. All Im doing is sitting here and Im sweating! Ew, I need another shower.

I had my brother-in-law try to fix it today, but he got shocked! He says he knows somebody that might be able to fix it for cheap, but tomorrow Im going to try and call a local electrician that knows what he is doing, but I may have to wait till Monday. Hopefully its nothing too hard or too expensive to fix. I pray it gets fixed very soon.

I will never take central air-conditioning for granted again!

Even here in the land of perpetual 100+ degree days, I try my best to live without A/C. Unless I'm trying to stay all nice and neat and smelling good (i.e. dates or business meetings), I'll still drive with the windows down. I just bought a fan for my bedroom, and cool the room before going to sleep and then turn on the fan for a very comfortable night's sleep.

If it wasn't for the puppy, I'd try to forego the a/c altogether.

We have an old fashioned window air-conditioner in one of the rooms for right now. Plus box fans through-out the house. At night we open the windows, thankfully they are all screened. Its odd, during the day its been topping out around 90+, but at night the temp. drops to around 60.

If it were not for my nephew, and our pets, I would not be so concerned about the hot house. Last night I thought my hamster had died! But she was just hot, so I moved her into the room with the window air-conditioner.

The bad thing is, its not just the air-conditioner, its the furnace as a whole, so I have to get it fixed anyway or come this winter we will freeze.

We are going out to eat this evening.

Have you tried wearing a winter sweat suit soaked in water while you are in front of a fan, or under a ceiling fan? If the humidity is low enough this will definitely cool you down and keep you as cool as a cucumber at least until it dries out. Then you just re-wet your sweat suit again. Oh, and make sure to place some plastic sheeting or something else waterproof on the floor under where you plan on spending your time chillin' - if the humidity is low you'll actually be tempted to turn off the fan on account of how cold you may get! Just thought I'd give you a heads up on how to stay cool as a cucumber without AC when in a pinch as you seem to be in.

Its fixed!!! Sweet relief! It feels so much more comfortable. It was well worth getting it fixed by someone who actually knows what they are doing.
