when the presentors or winners would say something that the network didnt like, they didnt just bleep it or whatever, they completely cut away so the view had no idea what they were saying. This happened to Sally Field who was expressing disapproval of the war, along with a couple of other times through the ceremony.

I watched and I agree Sparks, the censoring was lame. Sally Field's rant was slightly annoying but I didn't know we weren't allowed to express disapproval for the war on TV anymore:noway:. And I heard they tried to censor Katherine Heigel cursing by using a different camera angle. Omg! A curse word on television...that's never happened before:rolleyes:

It was annoying and I'm all for freedom of speech blah blah blah but an awards show for TV shows is not where I want to hear political rants anyway.

I agree with you Katlin, but it's her right. People can go out and talk about how fantastic the KKK is and I wouldnt like it, but I wouldnt dream of trying to censor them. She freakin said Goddamn and was censor they say MUCH worse on every other sitcom out there these days. What happened to good old fashioned bleeping. I dont hear Sally Field going on about much, its her 30 seconds to say whatever she pleases and if she wishes to use it for political statements, it's her right to do so.
With Katerine Heigle's speech she mouthed a bad word and they went to the same "different" camera angle as they did every timet hey censored everyone...they just showed the bad side of the set for a good 20 seconds cutting out everything which also edited quite a bit of what Sally Field said.
Ridiculous.

well, I have a feeling Fox won't be hosing the Emmy's for awhile anyway, the reviews that I've been reading are not good

Even so, shouldnt have been censored.

Agreed. None of what was said was bad enough to warrant censoring. Thank goodness Fox doesn't carry the Oscars. All we would see is censoring and different camera angles since Jon Stewart is hosting

Still, Nicki, its their right to say whatever the hell they want, no one has to listen. they have the right to say it and it shouldnt be taken from them. It was taken from Sally Field.
I think politics thrown in some peoples face is a good thing since most people dont think enough to think about it on their own. People are incedibly apathetic and just dont care whats going on in the world; they should. I know I have been tired of hearing about something and wasn't familiar with the topic and went and sought out information on it because I was being bombarded with other people's opinions on it. If they dont want to hear other people talk about it, then they should stop watching anything that isnt completely scripted. People are going to talk about what is important to them, and if they have a million viewers they are going to talk about whats important to them. and if anyone watches Sally Fields show, it is very much politically oriented and discusses the war every week. Not every speech had these issues discussed, I could see a frustration if this was the case, but it wasn't.
I cannot wait for the Oscars because I love Jon Stewart. But I believe that if anyone makes the Oscars political then it will be the winners, just as it was last time Jon hosted and Michael Moore and George Clooney won.

Sparks, I think I love you for that. As someone whose cousin is overseas at the moment fighting in this war, I admire people who have the guts to bring it up and rattle a few feathers. I think it's important that people are educated and informed. It seems like America has a ''if we don't see it, it doesn't exist" attitude. And if Sally Field's speech causes a few people to open their eyes and learn about what's happening in their world, I say good for her. Even if she pissed everyone off and no one listened, she said how she felt and that's her right. I applaud her for it. I've wanted to do the same thing for awhile everytime I see something war related but I just pray for my cousin's safety instead

If people already don't care about it, I highly doubt their opinions are going to be changed by a TV star.

Not until they go into a voting booth and make their choices based on something they heard. They don't really know that much about it, but they know somebody "important" said something, and they'll go with that.
Granted, many people don't bother to vote at all, but way too many who do have no real understanding of the issues/people involved.

Yeah, I could really care less what a TV star has to say, especially on the 4038403 award shows they have for themselves.

Seriously. If a person doesn't care and doesn't vote, they are not going to be influenced by Sally Field. She's not that cool.

Sally Field  She's so cool...
who is Sally Field?
I got a message in my inbox saying people have replied to this, and I'm just like "what the heck... I haven't been on LD in forever," but then I remembered Kat probably has... so yeah. I saw very little of it, it seemed cool to me, but I don't know enough to partcipate in the conversation.... just wanted to say hi :)

They're not the ones I worry about. I'm more concerned about the ones who don't care enough to be truly informed, but vote anyway.
They ARE stupid enough to be influenced by Sally Field or any other famous person, because they won't consider the source, and just casually remember hearing some "somebody" say something.
Then they vote stupidly, and voila! we have Bush.

oh yeah, I dont in anyway think that she will change anyones mind and make them against the war if they are for it or make them care of they don't. But if they are uneducated in the matter and are sick and tired of hearing about it...maybe they will go look into it so they can appropriately participate in a dialoge about it. and regardless...she can say whatever the hell she wants. That's really my main point. I may have been inspired to look into something further that i didnt know about, but I am not your average American...becuase you know...I can tell you about each amendment, or at least most of them.
Hollis did not just ask who Sally Field is. and she is that cool :p

look, I'm doing the best that I can  We just got through Dirty Dancing a few weeks ago..now I have to introduce another classic...I figure by the time our 50th anniversary rolls by we MIGHT be caught up on all the great movies
and um so I I'm not completely off topic...Go freedom of speech!!!
Actually, I think she should have been able to speak her mind, because people are either going to listen or they're not, but either way they go, that's why God invented the "mute" button...or the channel + and - buttons...I think if Fox was going to edit, they could have done a better job...but as long as people aren't out there flashing their boobs or saying inappropriate words, then let them have their moment. Ok I'm done
