For those of you who couldn't tune in this morning, a netcast will be available on todayshow.com around 10 a.m.
Here's the setlist (so far...as of 9:33 a.m.)...Bruce being Bruce, he threw in unexpected performances of "Night" and "Last to Die" for us:
1. The Promised Land
2. Radio Nowhere
3. Livin' in the Future
4. My Hometown
5. Night
6. Last to Die
7. Long Walk Home

Were all those songs played for a TV audience? I only saw PL, RN, and LITF. I was on the phone with a friend after LITF when they said-- I thought --"we'll be back with more of Bruce", or something like that, and I get involved with my conversation and the next thing I know we're in Live! With Regis and Kelly.

I had to go to the chiropractor at 9:10 so I missed anything after "Night"
However...
I think that was the worst version of The Promised Land I think I have ever heard. God the tempo was soooo slow and it didn't help that Bruce's vocals were down in the mix(but some audio issues are to be sort of expected with this type of show)
Radio Nowhere - sounded good, better than the one version I heard from night 2 at Convention Hall, which also sounded lethargic. It sounded much more like a "radio hit" than it does on the CD. If he wants to sell CDs, this performance didn't hurt.
Livin' In The Future - He took, THE party song from the CD and ruined it. It still sounded good the way it was performed, but it lost that reminiscent E Street vibe that you get from the CD version. Now I understand what people were talking about when this was performed on
Mon/Tue. To make it work in this form, I think he should just start out with the guitar riff and carry that until the song kicks in with the blazing sax. The way the song kicks in then he just kills it with the speech, just
doesn't work. By the way, I didn't mind the speech so much, I like when Bruce gives you his insight about any song.
My Hometown - I know it's almost blasphemous for a "hardcore" Bruce fan to say they like the BITUSA album, but screw it. I love it, always have, always will. Now granted the songs I like most on this album the most are the ones that weren't played to death on the radio and MTV in 84/85. I'd kind of like to hear My Hometown every so many shows, it is a perfect companion to Long Walk Home. And to me any show that includes Darlington County, Downbound Train, or I'm Goin' Down is alright with me.
Night- This is the energy and music I fell in love with.
To last comments.
The first regarding his comment, he must really want to sell some CDs to be out there so early. You go Bruce !
I give him credit for finally embracing TV in recent years. I wish he would do it more so more people would realize how great the guy still is. Radio/Video airplay is dead for him, current stations won't play his music and classic rock station only play, well... his classics. I gave Mellencamp credit for doing the "Our Country" ads. Hell, if these guys want their music to get out there these days, they have to think progressively.
Secondly,
Is there anything sweeter than that sax break in the middle of a Bruce Springsteen song. To me, that sax is as much a part of Bruce Springsteen's music as his lyrics.
Thirdly,
Did I really just see Bruce stick his face in the camera and throw his hand around like a "gangsta" rapper ?

Nice review Postal. The Promised Land was very strange. I did not like the slow tempo, low volume version.

I think everything that was performed was aired and is on TodayShow.com except Long Walk Home, which will probably be the song they air on Sunday morning.

I believe (and I'm watching the west coast reply right now) Long Walk Home was played and televised, but after that song it appeared as if they were about to do another song, that's my question (what was televised was a taped verison of My Hometown) from the top of that hour

As I said in my initial post i had to cut out after "Night".
I know depending on the local affiliate, some cut out at 9 to air Regis and kelly, so what fans saw will vary in different areas.

He didn't say it was max's fault. He said it was steve's "fault"... if we are trying to blame someone. He just said to the crowd that he didn't see nbc tell them it was time to go and then all of the sudden steve told him he thought they signalled them so they just started playing again and it sort of "fell into" promised land again.... it was proof of how a band that knows each other can just put something together on the spot...
the today show was freaking amazing by the way and I have to say that I was THE LAST NON CELEBRITY TO BE ALLOWED INTO THE FRONT PIT!! I am proud of this!! Hahah... such a great day. I actually watched the show feet away from the guy from "scrubs" don't know his name but still wearing the "buddy walk" bracelet he gave me!!! AWESOME!!!
Closest I have ever been at a bruce show and just amazing!!!!!!
I know my wife got some video on the cell phone but i'll have to see how it came out...
