by the way, how is it that 23 years later, no one understands what BITUSA is really about?

Oh, he gets it. "I think there are some verses, but I'm more of a chorus guy". Very tongue in cheek. And if you ask me, he is barely disguising his admiration of Bruce, begging him to come on the show.

Colbert is hilarious. That and The Daily Show help me wind down every night... he's just kidding about BITUSA. He's kind of playing a role. Funny, cause last night I missed the show.

Like when it's ALWAYS one of the songs they use to accompany the fireworks on the 4th of July?

glad to hear that he is kidding...you can tell with jon stewart when he's being sarcastic but its a little harder to tell with him...maybe cause i don't watch his show. anyway, the reality is that BITUSA is still played at fireworks shows...sometimes i just want to go up to the person in charge and be like "uh, hello" but i still enjoy hearing it even though the context is completely wrong.

Oh he was definitely kidding... I loved the little Come on My Show (whisper) Please?????
Also the bit where he said -- of course American's don't know about it (voter suppression, et.al) THAT'S WHY IT WORKS....
Tongue in cheek, yet, but maybe a little grain of truth as well...

That's the thing about Colbert. Always joking. His show is kind of a mock Bill O'Reilly. Stephen Colbert playing Stephen Colbert. Really amusing if you tune in. But yea, I see what your saying about how BITUSA is misused. I guess most people really do like choruses.

That was damn funny. Thanks for sharing that!
And yes, Colbert is definitely kidding in that clip. JerseyGirl2, you nailed it on the head that it is humor with a grain of truth.

The other day we were playing Magic in the car and Gypsy Biker came on.
My 4-year old son asked what the song was about. I thought for a bit and told him it was about a soldier coming home.
He said, "oh, like Born in the USA".

Absolutely, He is smirking the whole time. It was a total parody of Billy boy as is Colbert's show.

i just didn't know if he was joking about BITUSA being about illegal immigrants. everything else was apparent that he was.

Smart kid you've got there! Can you get him to explain it to the grownups?
