"Glitter in the Gutter" is the funnest most listened to CD in our house this year bar none. I have copies everywhere I have a cd player just so I can hear at a moments notice. It always makes me start grooving, great energy.
Daddy-o , you make me smile, I'll go but Michael on now.

1. Parts of Yesterday, Mark Zubia. If your a fan of TOL you will love this one too.
2. Cimarron Manifesto, Jimmy LaFave. Great stuff. "Car Outside" is the country answer to Thunder Road.
3. Noise From Words, Michael McDermott. "The American In Me" is one of the best patriotic/protest songs ever. "My Fathers Son" hauntingly brilliant.
4. Into The Wild Soundtrack, Eddie Vedder. Never been much of a PJ fan but loved the book, movie and this soundtrack is amazing.
5. Mission California, Cross Canadian Ragweed. Reminds me of RCPM when they were great.
6. Magic, BS. Gets better and better with repeated listenings.
7. Big Casino, Jimmy Eat World. They are back and they ROCK!
8. Between God and Country, Andy Hersey. Country Ranch Rock at its best.
9. 35, Mary Cutrufello. She's back and she brings it with HORNS TOO!
10. Children Running Through, Patty Griffin ? Did this CD come out this year? If it did it makes my top 10 because its a damn fine CD!

Yup. He split from V and isn't with the Harmony Creek Dippers or whatever they were called. This one sounds like a partial sequel to Tomorrow the Green Grass. (Partial only because you'd really need some Gary Louris electric guitar like on "Ten Little Kids" for it to be a full sequel). The songs are a bit more introspective and quieter, but if you like songs like "See Him on the Street", "Two Hearts", and "Pray for Me", you'll probably like this one. I do.
Rumor has it that 2008 will bring a Gary Louris solo record and a Louris/Olson disc (first collaboration since TTGG). Good news.

Would have easily made my Top 10 of 2007 but I'm fairly certain it was a very late 2006 release (at least that's the copyright date on it and what CD Baby is saying). I guess I could get around that by saying I bought it in February/March 2007

also waiting on the New/old? Neil Young CD Chrome Dreams ll which I am putting on right now to drown out McCarver on the Sox Indians game

In that case "Boys and Girls in America" would be my #1. Easily the best of the past two years but didn't make my 2006 list for that reason. "Sam's Town" would have made my top 10 - got it for Christmas but didn't listen to it until 2007.

I've had remarkably good luck with several new releases recently:
Blue Rodeo - Small Miracles
IMO, these guys are like a modern day version of The Band (hey, they are from Canada). The caliber of their music and songwriting is outstanding. Their new CD is their best since Five Days in July, which is one of my favorite albums ever. Great vocals, great hooks, and in their best songs they have instrumental portions that are just impossibly good.
Ruthie Foster - The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster
A friend of mine sent me a mix CD that had one song from this album, and I went out and bought the whole enchilada. Fantastic soulful album.
Bettye Lavette - Scene of the Crime
Speaking of soul, this is the real deal. Spooner Oldham and Patterson Hood (from Drive By Truckers) in the backup band, recorded at Muscle Shoals, this is everything a soul album should be and more. Amazing remake of Elton John's "Talking Old Soldiers" and an original tune called "Before the Money Came". This is stunning in the same kind of way that Solomon Burke's Don't Give Up on Me was stunning.
Crowded House - Farewell to the World
Actually came out last year, but I just got around to picking it up. Really enjoyable live album featuring great playing and crowd interaction, sing-alongs, etc. Just a lot of fun to listen to.
Good stuff, happy happy joy joy. All four get the Daddy-O seal of approval. :music:

Yeah I hear ya BD- Solomon Burke's disc is awesome.
What gets me about both discs is that they take these great songs by great songwriters and just own them. You can't imagine anyone else even bothering to try covering these songs in the future.
When you get a chance, check out the Bettye disc and let us know what you think...hope you dig it as much as I do...

Modest Mouse- I'm surprised no one has mentioned them, this is a classic album released this year. Missed the Boat is one of the best songs this decade.
Ryan Adams, Easy Tiger- All I know is it's the one album I consistently go back to. The Sun also Sets might be his best song yet and I taught myself to grow old and Goodnight Rose are instant classics.
Arctic Monkeys,Favorite worst nightmare- These guys just keep getting better, much better than their first release. Check out, Fluorescent Adolescent and Teddy Picker, great alternative music.
Pietasters, All Day- Classic ska with a little punk and reggae and soul. Very underrated.
The Office, A night at the Ritz- The first 4 tracks are brilliant. Oh My could be single of the year.
Eddie Vedder, Into the Wild- Worth it just for Hard Sun, but the whole album is solid.
The Star Spangles, Dirty Bomb- The Replacements meets Cheap Trick. This Side of the Sun, great single.
Honorable mention- Bruce's Magic, Spoon, Broken West, Interpol, and Nas.
