BILLBOARD: 1-day sales: at 124,000 and predicts #1 debut!

Britney Spears looks to have a clear path to top The Billboard 200.

First-day sales from the eight chains that report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building Charts put Spears' Jive/Zomba release "Blackout" at 124,000 on the report released today (Oct. 31).

That is more than double the number of units posted by Carrie Underwood's chart-topping "Carnival Ride," which rounded up 49,000 sales from the start of the tracking week through close of business yesterday. That album is currently in the runner-up position.

Zomba estimates "Blackout" will open in the range of 330,000-350,000, a ballpark that falls in line with her Building Chart total.

Since the Building Charts' inception, six of the seven weeks' Wednesday leaders were also No. 1 on The Billboard 200 when final charts were compiled with data from all reporting sellers. Jimmy Eat World's "Chase This Light" was the only Wednesday leader that did not hold its pole position.

The Building Charts also seem to confirm that the nation's biggest seller, Wal-Mart, will not report sales on its U.S. exclusive, the Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden," as that much-anticipated album is missing from the Wednesday list. Wal-Mart usually blocks its proprietary titles from appearing on Top Comprehensive Albums, as was the case with its Garth Brooks exclusives.

Anderson Merchandisers and Handleman Company, the racks that stock music at Wal-Mart, are among the eight accounts who provide data to Nielsen SoundScan's Building Charts. The remaining six reporting merchants are Trans World Entertainment, iTunes, Best Buy, Circuit City and Target.

"In the Zone," Spears' last studio album, opened with 609,000 in 2003 when it became her fourth No. 1 album. The Eagles' last major album, the live "Hell Freezes," began at 267,000 units when it posted the first of two weeks it spent in the top slot of The Billboard 200.

I Know! Super exciting!

...Baby One More Time = 14x platinum
Oops!... I Did It Again = 10x platinum
Britney = 4x platinum
In The Zone = 2x platinum(609,000 first week sales)
Blackout = barely 1x platinum(estimated 300,000 first week sales)
Next Album = barely gold!(HUGE FLOP!)

I wonder what stunts she will pull to keep her name in the news by that point?!?

So exciting~

In this day and age its great if an artist sells over 100k the first day!

And according to some posters on this board, if Britney sold even a fraction of that it would be a miracle.

Carrie Underwood has the #1 album right now anyways

Carrie Underwood Tops Billboard Charts

For the first time ever, three country singers (with help from one rock star) grabbed the top three slots on the U.S. pop album charts Wednesday, with former "American Idol" champ Carrie Underwood leading the way.

Underwood's "Carnival Ride" sold 527,000 copies in the week ended Oct. 28, according to Nielsen SoundScan, marking her first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Her Grammy-winning debut "Some Hearts" opened at No. 2 with 315,000 copies in 2005.

Britney fans really want to pretend this album is some smash just because they got it to #1 with 350k sales.

This album will have absolutely no staying power though....3 weeks from now it won't even be in the top 50. The album will barely go 1x platinum when all is said and done.

^ Now that's not necessarily true. I'm sure that's what most haters are hoping for, but it really all depends on how much she and her team are willing to put her album out there. I really don't expect Britney to do too much at this point, but it looks as if she doesn't have to. The album is set to hit #1, and, without any type of promotion, you have "Piece Of Me" at #13 (itunes) which is two spots lower than the Itunes peak of "Candyman" and "Hurt" which were promoted out the yang.
Funny thing is "Piece Of Me" isn't even one of the tracks that I consider single material.
There's "Radar," and the fan favorite "Breake The Ice" which I guess have potential as well.
The only way this album won't do well is if they allow it to fail. It's not the best album, but there's potential for success here.

Just look at what happened to Janet's last album....

it was #2 with 300k sold and QUIKLY bombed off the chart after that. Britney's fans might have gotten the album to #1 but it will have no staying power whatsoever and will quickly fall off the charts.....the album will not even go 2x platinum

Allow me to

Janet's first and second singles peaked at #25 and #90 respectively on Billboard, there was little to no hype/buzz surrounding her release, her last two albums have flopped everywhere and Janet herself is just not interesting anymore. It's beyond hilarious to even think that comparing her to Britney would somewhat validate your point - or lack of.

Allow me to...

remind you that with each new studio album Britney has released her sales have gotten lower and lower. Allow me to remind you that Mariah's Loverboy single hit #2 but her Glitter album still bombed.

Britney's album will quickly slide down the charts.

You probably have the mistaken idea that Britney has talent and that she is a good mother as well.

Yeah, also Christina's, Mariah's, Madonna's and basically every other artist out there. Now, your point? oh wait, you don't have one

Should we also bring up just how well Rihanna's singles sell, yet her album doesn't? Single success does not mean album success.

Hardly a fair comparison and I'm sorry that you seem to think so. Janet's album didn't hit #1, she didn't even sell 300k and she quickly descended because she didn't have any hits off her album (nothing even managed to go top 20), the material was not up to par with her best work, it was generally panned by critics. She's become washed up, boring and is being outdone by the newer generation of entertainers. Also she had the most promotion I've seen for an album in recently history. Seriously, the girl was everywhere.

You have Britney, who's given what critics are calling her best work, a top 5 hit, with more seeming to fall in line considering how well her unreleased singles are doing on Itunes.

You may be right about her album not having legs, but at this point, I'd say there's absolutely nothing that would point in that direction. For how troubled she is, how whatever she seems about the project, the fact that her label isn't even pushing this project much, she is doing quite well I'd say and all she'd really need is one good single to catch on in the way Fergie, P!nk and Beyonce did and she'll be just fine.

What do you mean? "A Girl Like Me" was in the top 10 best selling albums the year it was released WW, and GGGB is on the same list (or very close to) now.
Single success definetly doesn't mean album success, but the point I was initially making is that, there is absolutely nothing at this point which would indicate she's going to flop or that her album won't have legs. She doesn't exactly have a track record of CD's underperforming or not having longevity on the charts for the most part. And with all things considered, she is actually doing pretty well right now.
The only thing that poster is pulling from is the fact that he hates her and that's really sad.

The very first article posted at HDD said 400k, only a few websites got to see that, Then a few minutes later it was changed to 350k.

It hasn't changed ever since.

Carrie Underwood was supposed to debut at 400K and ended up with 520k so either a drop or an increase would be possible for Britney - there are 7 stores (itunes and Walmart included) that didn't report sales for Blackout on the first day.
