In the Democratic Radio Address to be aired this Saturday, retired Army Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, the top U.S. commander in Iraq from June 2003 to June 2004, put his support behind legislation calling for troops to begin withdrawing (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gOShdEIUILz345nMuxV2zAfYWDhgD8T2B6U00) from Iraq on Dec. 15, 2008. Sanchez, who has been criticized (http://www.americanprogressaction.org/progressreport/2007/10/nightmare.html) over his handling of the Abu Ghraib scandal, said that the lack of political progress has not “matched” the “courage and blood of our troops” and that there is “no evidence” that reconciliation is possible:
“The improvements in security produced by the courage and blood of our troops have not been matched by a willingness on the part of Iraqi leaders to make the hard choices necessary to bring peace to their country,” Sanchez said in remarks to be aired Saturday for the weekly Democratic radio address.

“There is no evidence that the Iraqis will choose to do so in the near future or that we have an ability to force that result,” he said.

Sanchez added that the House bill “makes the proper preparation of our deploying troops a priority and requires the type of shift in their mission that will allow their numbers to be reduced substantially.”
In October, Sanchez said that in Iraq the United States is “living a nightmare with no end in sight (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/12/washington/12cnd-general.html?_r=2&hp=&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&adxnnlx=1195755046-b9LNdBJeP5tDSyaKb7XdBg).”

The "former" commander is NOT in charge any more, nor does he have security clearance to know what is officailly going on over there to make this assessment...From what I've been reading and posting tonight, things are turning around in Iraq.

There are several reports coming from Iraq now where civilians are beginning to take control of their cities and fight back against insurgents. Plus violence is down....which shows the surge did work.

Sanchez doesn't have security clearance, but you do?!

Sanchez doesn't have security clearance, but you do?!Another liberal answer...you don't have anything better to say so you turn on me. When did I ever say I have security clearance or acted like I do. I believe I said I based my opinion on what I've been reading lately.

Sanchez doesn't have access to any evidence right now because he's no longer active in our military. Also he hasn't been in Iraq lately, so on what is he basing his assessment on? Most likely it's the MSM since he's a civilian now.

I think I'll take Gen. Sanchez' word over what you think YOU know Connie. Don't you have a Rush Limbaugh radio broadcast to record and worship?

So, essentially, you're saying that his sources are only as valid as yours> (I'm not willing to say that, but that's not my point here.)

If his information is bad, yours can be as bad or worse.

Actually, I'd be willing to bet that he's in touch with active military personnel on a regular basis, since over his long career he must have made friends. And those sources, while not betraying state secrets, can give him a far more accurate picture than anything you can get.

It's as much a Liberal answer as your response is NeoCon false cry for pity, a la Hans Blix. Remember? His saying Saddam had no weapons was transformed into mudslining and saying he was in bed with Hussein.

None of your sources, not that you really quote any, give me any reason to take your word over Sanchez. Besides, where does "turning around" mean "must keep troops in Iraq?"

This has to be one of the most ludicrous statements I've read in a long time. lol

Hey, you know that retired surgeon general? Yeah, I'm not going to listen to him about healthy eating anymore. He's retired. My cousin, the auto mechanic, has talked to a LOT of people about exercise and good diet and it's all just bull****. And my cousin gets his information from EMC (Eat More Candy). It posts legit news articles on its website and they have the latest research and every word is true!
