View Full Version : Maybe I'm just "over" this board...

I've been reading and contributing to this board since September of '99...a long time now. I've watched it get hot and cold, depending on the situation. Bruce on tour, hot. Bruce at home on the farm, cold. Bruce releases a new album, hot. Bruce at home on the farm again, cold.
Until recently, though, I have never seen as much self-centered, argumentative, whiny, gripey crap as seems to be going on now...Bruce should play longer, Patti should stay home, Patti should be on the tour, Bruce should start on time...blah, blah, blah.
And the vitriolic responses to simple comments or opinions have been embarrassing. I think a great majority of the folks on this board are well past the grammar school age (hell, most of our KIDS are well past the grammar school age!), and yet people argue like 3rd graders.
I guess I just have to accept the fact...I'm over this board. It's a shame.

we understand and concur with most
of your remarks - this board is not what
it once was.......but just like about
everything else in the world right now
there is good and bad - enjoy the good,
ignore or protest against the bad -
we've lost a lot of good people on the
board over the years,
we can't afford to lose the "circus" too....

I second that. I know I rarely contribute anymore and open just a few threads - it just isn't what it used to be. No more - hi ho, hi ho, it's off to Bruce we go ....... we had fun on this board! Regardless - we'll see you in Atlanta Rob.

I hear you, but in these times of internet overload mis -use/abuse/blogging/you tubisms/etc, however you want to interpret the good and bad of this forum and the internet as a whole.....you get all kinds of personalities and not all will see eye to eye. But, that hasn't been the problem I noticed on this board of late. I think we had a few new folks join and some old folks return that just have one objective, and that is to disrupt and create havoc to call attention to themselves and others. They literally get off on it, really shameful, but someone hasn't lavished enough love and attention on them I guess. They play in this virtual world and hide behind thier keyboards.....very sad.
It is pretty simple to see, but given time, this too will pass. I say hang in there because there are a lot of good folks on this forum, way more then the bad. We have all been through this before and we will again, but the real constant that shouldn't be forgotten is the good conversations, information sharing and great relationships established due to the board. I don't think that should get lost due to a few bad apples.
I hope you continue to enjoy this forum as I always enjoyed your input.

Maybe Bruce's fans are just getting older and crabbier.
It happens.

TOTALLY DISAGREE
I love this board and I just ignore all the BS, like political fighting or "I've seen XX amount of shows so I know it all" and other stupid post. Prefer to keep an eye on the prize good information and tree's.
I have found that Bruce fans overall are a wonderful bunch both here on the board (there are some who aren't) and at the shows.
But I understand there is a tipping point when enough is enough.

Well this IS a terrible Bruce board -- except for all the other Bruce boards, which are worse: more inane, more brucer-than-thou, more garbage to wade through. LD still rules!

I do agree that Bruce's fans are older and crabbier.
I also agree with whoever said that they like breasts. Me too.

I agree with that. I was reading the other boards last night as I usually do and thinking that although posting has been slow lately here (including myself) we are still a notch above in many ways. Some good stuff but lots more garbage "over there" There are great people on all the boards, think of all the ones we know and love on here Rob:love:

To me this board is sort of like a lasting marriage - after a while there is not all that much to say and so the only noise one hears in the house is the kids bickering :).
Don't worry Cobalt, they will move out soon.
There are lots of good people here.

cobalt, I think sometimes it takes a thread like this to bring out some of the very cool long time peeps on this board; as well as the man who always has the right picture at the right time...............the master of the universe.........GEEBOSS. GEE may not be as young as he was 7-8 years ago, but he just showed he can still get the right pic at the right time!:redcool: :redcool:

I hate this board..especially that Ohio Boss character..all he talks about is beer and pre-party information and his sarcasm stinks to the high heavens...but rumor has it he won't leave until he gets the drink that MHA owes him........

Everything has a life cycle..Intro>Growth>Maturity>Decline.
I'd like to add a new stage to the cycle as it pertains to LD. Rebirth.
I have enjoyed this board for several years and have met many cool people here and at shows.
It's worth saving.
In the spirit of not simply cursing the darkness, lets all light a candle.
Merry Christmas all!

This place is ok, I place it above Backstreets and GL (both sites are too Bruce Almighty for me) and below SPL, which seems to be more than a Springsteen board with their Off topic board, which is better than their General, even though they seem to be going through some changes too.

From what I've heard if it's amber in color, has bubbles and a little foam on top it fits his parameters for beer.

Cobalt - just like you I found this great place in the fall of 1999 as the Reunion tour was hitting it's stride. It was a new and different thing - a place where the power of the internet could bring together people who love Bruce and the band. Imagine being able to find out the setlists the morning after the show, trade bootlegs on CDR's, etc. Almost everyone who found this place was in awe of how much information could be found herein and from the minds of people who had been fans for years and would share their knowledge. After the Reunion tour ended, this place quieted down a lot and some great people left never to return (Dari comes to mind). The events of 9/11, Asbury Park Christmas shows in Decmber 2001 and the Rising tour brought new life and lots of new blood to the board. By 2002, the internet was a much different place than in 1999. The board reflected it as it does now in 2007. LD is still an intimate place in the larger world of Bruce fans. Richard has provided quiet leadership (and an occasional LA parking tip) and not made this a heavily moderated board. And thank god we don't go to concerts in matchy matchy clothing (although if liquor was involved we could be persuaded). I still remember great pre-shows in Hartford, Atlanta, NYC, and Albany during the Reunion tour and the friendships that were formed there that have lasted through the tours to now. It would be great to have that intimacy again, but sometimes you have to let the memories be what they are and find out what replaces them on today's stage. I stil llike reading LD, but don't do it as often as in the early years. So eight years down the road I still choose to be here for now and the future.
