Not a real dynamic class...

Madonna...eh

Mellencamp - sure I see this one. While I don't like his music as much as Bruce or Bob Seger, he definitely deserves in.

The Ventures - surf music REPRESENT! Bruce oughta do Wipeout in concert one of these days as a tribute.

Leonard Cohen - eh

DC5 - I read that even though they had enough votes last year, they were denied entry by that guy from RS magazine, because he wanted to put Grandmaster Flash in. I personaly love that stompin rockin sound from the DC5. I'm not sure if they are HOF caliber, but hey good for them. Their 12-14 biggest songs are awesome, but a lot of their later singles really kind of sucked. Mike Smith was their lead singer, and supposedly he's a good guy. Suffered a fall a few years ago that left him paralyzed. Hope he is able to enjoy this recognition.

Little Steven is going to be SO happy about the DC5, he's been promoting their candidacy on his radio show for years.

The RRHOF is the biggest joke. They didn't even nominate Metallica the first time around.

Two of my all-time favs, going back to the 60s.

In retrospect, DC5 remind me on an earlier version of the ESB. That band, in its heydey, had such a strong driving sound. Sad that Denny Payton (sax) passed away earlier this year.

Really happy for The Ventures. Not a true "surf band", but very influential, IMO. And still playing today ... they were at BB Kings in NYC last month. Equally sad that Mel Taylor, one of the finest drummers ever, won't be there.

I hadn't heard that about Mike Smith. Truly sad. Even Dave Clark said that Mike was the real talent of the group.

I'm not into him as much as I was years ago, but Leonard Cohen is a brilliant songwriter. He is a different genre, but a great mix of poetry, folk, and Euro sound. I say that because even though he is North American in origin, having written in New York and Canada, he lived for many years in Europe, and is very popular there. He has influenced countless bands, and even though I'm not always feeling his music like I once did, every once in a while I put something on that reminds me of how good he is. I imagine most of his recording days are behind him.

Just wait a few years when Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister are inducted. You'll be begging for more Madonna.

Didn't they do Glad All Over? I love that song!

I'm hoping that the DC5 anthology set will finally be re-released (its been out of print for years, and regularly goes for $50-80 on eBay) to coincide with their induction to the HOF.

And yes, KingstonGirl, the DC5 did Glad All Over, which absolutely rocks.

The Rock Hall ceremony will be back in Cleveland again in 2009 and they hope every 3 years thereafter.

Bill:

Neil Young's in with Buffalo Springfield.

I'm not familiar w/ the HOF's rules about him subsequently being inducted solo.
