Very sorry to intrude with such frivolity but I need your help. I bought this beautiful set of greeting cards and I want to give one to my boss, but I don't want to give her the "wrong" card and no one at Papyrus could tell me what they mean. Does anyone here know the English equivalent of these Chinese symbols or characters?
I will assume right now that some of your responses, while completely off the mark, will be quite interesting...

Okay, I've got three of the four.
Top right - good luck / fortune
bottom left - love
bottom right - joy
Top left - not quite sure.
Back to your favorite films of 2007 ;)

Don't use that one. It is taken from the men's room and means "For a sure thing call the Spears sisters."

Here you go-
Sometimes the translations are interpreted differently, for instance, the top right character is specific to what sort of fortune, & Love is specific too...Hope this helps & isn't too late...
Top left= Long life
Top right= good fortune, good luck ,having many kids etc etc
Bottom left=love. receiving as well as giving love.
Bottom right=* happiness in things.

On a side issue i'm always amused when i see someone getting a tatoo of a chinese or japanese symbol when they have no connection whatsover to it and many time do not know the meaning.
Ya think there are kids over in Japan getting McDonald's Golden Arches or American Flags on their arms? Ummmmm--doubt it.

I find humor in it as well...maybe more so than most...An ongoing provocation I have with a caucasian co-worker(meant in good natured kidding) is that she has a Chinese character "Tramp Stamp" (and not "Tramps Like Us"...but the tatoo above the crack of your a**)...I told her that tatooed Chinese characters are rarely accurate because things like the direction and order of the brush stroke in calligraphy is a very important aspect in the phrases intended meaning...
Sooo...I torture her about it and make up different phrases for what her tat "means" :p
In the end though...whatever floats your boat...if you're okay with a tat that says "Purple Monkey Butt" instead of "Love"...it's no one else's business...
