For some reason it bugs me that fans always refer to this song as "In Freehold." I see it on bootlegs as "In Freehold" I know 100% its called "Freehold". I don't know why that bothers me.

As an outsider who's been in Freehold for the past 6 years I can say I don't think anybody cares what you call it. I do understand the song now, everything Bruce says is pretty much dead on. With the exception of me everybody knows everybody, and at one time in thier life dated that person. A classic Freehold moment happened to me just last night while waiting on line in Barnes and Noble on RTE 9. Lady in front of me on line turns to the lady behind me on line and says, " you teach in the Boro don't you? You were my music teacher, I graduated in 1990." I got to move one up as the two went over everybody who's still teaching and so on and so on. Farms have been replaced with McMasion's but for the most part everybody's still here that were here 40 years ago.
My friend's best friend's father past away two weeks ago and you couldn't even get in the door. It's a hellava town, Freehold.

If Bruce can refer to "Night" as "The Night" on setlists I feel free to call it "In Freehold". I'm still trying to figure out how the "The" helps him know it's not "Because the Night" since that is the song that has the "The".
Discuss among yourselves..........

Of course, since Roy Bittan is now the new boss of E Street  , he might see the word Night on a setlist and lead the rest of the band into Drive All Night, Open All Night, Prove It All Night, Something in the Night, or Bring on the Night (those are all the songs with Night in the title that I could think of...). You just never know what might happen.

I used my longtime Freehold connections to get a ticket to the St. Rose Show in 96? what a great night it was...and having gone to the BORO high school many years ago the song was just perfect ...Yo Mr. Wilson can i get a hall pass...the only thing better than hearing Bruce play in Freehold that night ....was him saying I am goint to play red headed woman

With the exception of me everybody knows everybody, and at one time in thier life dated that person.
I grew up in a Monmouth County town East of Freehold, and have lived and worked here for almost 40 years. My experience is the same. When we go out, my wife (who did not grow up here) says to me, "let's see how long it will take before you see someone you know." I see people that I went to grammar school with all the time, which blows her mind, because in her upstate NY hometown, virtually everyone has left to seek their fortunes elsewhere, so to speak.
