Keep with it... read each sentence as slow as you need to to catch her meaning. Usually, she is poking fun at someone, but she is quite subtle, and writers about human frailities in an ironic way.
Try to take class in English 18th & 19th Century novels, anywhere you can, if you really want to enjoy expanding your mind. Having a guide give you an idea what the Jane is writing about, will really help. Remember to have fun, because predominantly, that is exactly why Jane was writing.... to amuse her readers & herself.
Wikipedia overview of Jane Austen, helps explain some of her themes:

Oh I do like her, she is so smart to write so many great books, Emma, Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice. I recommend you to read them they are good, and I like the pride and prejudice best, I've read it several times. This classic novel of 1813, Pride and Prejudice wins my heart with its romantic story of Elizabeth Bennet and her Mr. Darcy. This novel is almost certainly the one where Austen best displays her sharp-edged wit both through Elizabeth's dialogue and in the narrative voice describing some of these characters and their actions. I bought a book for $8 with a deal (http://www.dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?deal_id=54430), I like it very much, so don't wait, just read them.
