View Full Version : Dream Setlists

We have some time on our hands before the Magic tour starts up again, so I thought I start a thread on dream setlists. I would venture a guess that this has been done before, probably numerous times, but my recent discovery of “playlists” on iPods made it a logical topic.

I applied a few rules -- no more than 26 total songs, BTR and Badlands had to be on the list and no more than 3 “anthems.” The last one shot to hell my desire to have Incident/Rosalita/NYC Serenade in mine. My initial setlist is:

Main Set: Night/My Love/Last to Die/Long Walk Home/Brilliant Disguise/Price You Pay/Spirit/She’s the One/Prove It/Streets of Philly/Long Time Comin/Sandy/Jungleland/Candy’s Room/Because the Night/Leavin Train/Youngstown/Racing/Promised Land/Murder Inc./Badlands

Encores: Kitty’s Back/Incident/Born To Run/Dancin/No Surrender

It was tough to whittle an initial list of 60 or so songs down to the final 26. I tried to maintain some cadence to the whole stream, but it will take a few listens to determine if I succeeded. I took some because they are so great live, some because I love them and hope to hear them live again and still others because they have special meaning for me.

Enjoy, give it some thought and post your dream list. I look forward to using some to create multiple night playlists on my iPod.

Also, a Happy and Healthy New Year to all!!!

I knew "playlists" were there, but never really took advantage of them until this week. With 700 songs loaded, getting to something I wanted to hear was getting more & more difficult. Today, at the gym, I used "recently added" and didn't have to skip anything.

Playlists are also handy if you want to make a "mix" CD.

Used it last month, it makes the title and songlist for the jewel case as well.

Sometimes I love technology.

I picked songs that I wanted to hear and tried to get some sort of flow, although I'm not sure if I was successful on that count. I need to give the playlists a few more listens. It didn't have to be songs that he would necessarily include, but the overall set had to be constructed so that it stood a chance of being done. Hence, the 26-song limit and other rules.

I really like My Love because the Reunion Tour version involved nearly everyone and really got things rockin. LWH hits me, probably due to the father-son theme. Long Time Comin was an effort to slow it down some (and has that father-son theme again), although I see that being one of 2-3 possibles in a pick-em spot.

Where I tried to meet up with what Bruce would conceivably play was in limiting anthem-type songs to three. I'd love to hear side 2 of WIESS, plus Lost in the Flood, Backstreets, Jungleland, Racing and The River, but I just don't see Bruce doing all those in one show. Therefore, I limited myself to 3 of those (Incident, Racing and Jungleland).

Mickey, no problem with your dream! My problem is that I'm a finance type and we tend to restrict ourselves with rules. I have another playlist titled anthems and it has all of those songs and then some. It's great to have 10 or so songs and be listening to the same list 90 minutes later!

what this thread reminds me is that there are sooo many classics that bruce isn't dropping into the few spots he has on his "real" setlist.

much as i love it, i'd like to see Shes the One get the heave-ho in favor of any number of tunes above.

Hmmmmm......isn't there anyone who still loves "Drive All Night"?????

Just a little bit of it:

I swear I'll drive all night just to buy you some shoes
And to taste your tender charms
And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms

Tonight there's fallen angels and they're waiting for us down in the street
Tonight there's calling strangers,
hear them crying in defeat.
Let them go, let them go, let them go,
do their dances of the dead (let'em go right ahead)
You just dry your eyes girl, and c'mon c'mon
c'mon let's go to bed, baby, baby, baby

Hmmmmmm......good!

Also, "Back In Your Arms" ??

Just a few thoughts....still workin' on mine....so many songs....Whew! not an easy task!
This could take awhile!

It is incredible what winds up on the cutting room floor, so to speak. Songs like Janey, Back in Your Arms, Lost in the Flood were among my last cuts.

I also meant to talk a bit about my opener and closer and invite you to do the same. Night kicks things off in overdrive. Coupled with My Love and Last to Die, it really gets everyone going right from the start.

No Surrender is much more personal. Not only do I find it uplifting and full of hope, I adopted it as my theme song through my battles this year. When he did it in Philly, I was near tears. Between that, Brilliant Disguise and Incident during those shows, I felt as if Bruce had picked a few songs just for me. He probably wasn't, but it felt great just thinking that he might have.

"baldands" has so much energy to begin with... to open a show with it and go into "saint in the city" or "prove it" would just be killer..I would love to see an opening badlands on this tour.. i dont think hes done it since the reunion tour.. But to end an entire show I love "im a rocke"r ( bruce did it a few times the rising tour), thats a killer upbeat and rocking song with bruce just on the mic so hes got the whole song to focus on the crowd for one last ...The songs got killer energy and most people love it.. also it can last as long as bruce wants to keep it going so this one would just leave the crowd wanting more...

You're okay with the 3 anthem rule. I consider anthems to be those 7-10 minute story songs like LITF, anything on side 2 of WIESS, Backstreets, Jungleland, Racing, River, Drive All Night, The Promise, etc.

Then I completely violated the 3 anthem rule :) But it's a dream setlist, right?

This was tougher than I expected it to be. I started off with all the songs from Bruce's albums, plus all the unreleased bootleg stuff I could remember off the top of my head. Then I narrowed that list a lot. Still ended up with 61 songs. Kept going, and here is what I came up with. Ask me tomorrow and I may come up with something completely different.

1. Born to Run
2. No Surrender
3. Prove It All Night
4. Gypsy Biker
5. The River
6. Blood Brothers (alt version)
7. Growin’ Up
8. Youngstown (full band)
9. Reason to Believe (Blues)
10. Long Walk Home
11. Back in Your Arms
12. Badlands
13. Tunnel of Love
14. My Love Will Not Let You Down

Band leaves the stage to thunderous applause. Bruce sits down at the piano for a short solo piano set:
15. Thunder Road
16. Real World

Band returns
17. E Street Shuffle (75 Hammersmith Odeon version)
18. Rosalita
19. New York City Serenade
20. Further On Up the Road

21. 10th Avenue Freeze Out
22. Hungry Heart
23. Spirit in the Night

24. Little Latin Lupe Lu
25. The Fever (w/ SSJ, Miami Steve, horns)
26. Havin a Party (w/ SSJ, Miami Steve, horns)

Maria's Bed would be so great with the band. I would love to see and hear that. Long Time Comin, and Leah would be nice too. but I can't think what I would take out to put them in. Set list needs to be extended probly.

I have always liked the idea of Bruce starting the show solo at the Piano for 10th Avenue Freezeout. Rest of stage dark until the line "The change was made when the Big Man joined the band" then all hell breaking loose.
