AP's entertainment editor, Jesse Washington, told Us, “We are not wishing it, but if Britney passed away, it’s easily one of the biggest stories in a long time. I think one would agree that Britney seems at risk right now. Of course, we would never wish any type of misfortune on anybody and hope that we would never have to use it until 50 years from now…but if something were to happen, we would have to be prepared.”
This is really sad. I personally don't find any of her recent antics entertaining or interesting, but I when I saw this blog entry on Dlisted, I was disgusted.

They do this with everyone. So, no, Britney is not the center of everyone's world. Sorry to disappoint.

Disgusting people. :greyno:
Everyone thinks she is going to kill herself, but I honestly think she is going to out live us all and continue to spread her craziness.
And I'm not saying that to be mean, I'm being serious. I think she's just delusional, not depressed (though, she probably should be).

Exactly, this is standard practice for most news agencies. They have things like this prepared well ahead of time. It's unfortunate that they have Britney's ready to go at any moment, and even more unfortunate that it truly would be a massive story. But this is what journalists need to be ready for.

yep thats journalism for you, i went to college for it for a year and we had a class on obituaries, and basically if a celebrity was ill or at risk or acting dangerously in behaviour that was when it was time to work on the obits. Cold eh? I didn't stay in journalism

Do you really think if they made one for Justin, Beyonce, or anyone else they would announce it? I doubt it because they don't get as much attention as Britney does. They announced it because they wanted more attention for themselves.

I can't say why they announced it, but I can say that people don't speculate about when Justin or Beyonce will die. Unfortunately, the premise of Britney's demise is on a lot of peoples' minds.
I have no idea if there was a query to the AP about this, there very well could have been. I would be very surprised if they released a press release for no reason whatsoever. It's not like they need tabloid attention...they're the Associated Press.
Is it much worse than a woman showing her vagina three nights in a row because she wants attention?

She never catches a break. If Britney isn't the one keeping her name out there, news stations, tabloids, gossip blogs would do it for her even if she isn't doing anything wrong, or whatever.
That's the point. They could release a statement about other famous people but no one would care. It wouldn't make CNN it wouldn't make Headline News.

Wow, that's really great that Britney's name is in the press for reasons like this. I'm really happy for you.
