ABC News' Tahman Bradley Reports: Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh issued an on-air apology to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., today after a caller said her daughter thought the Democratic presidential frontrunner looked like the cartoon character Curious George, a monkey.
Limbaugh, who laughed at the caller's comments, later apologized explaining he didn't know anything about Curious George.
"I've got to do something here to open this hour of today's excursion into broadcast excellence. I need to apologize to both Sen. Obama and to Sen. McCain, " said Limbaugh. "I had never heard of Curious George. Only now have staffers sent me little pictures of Curious George," he continued.
"So I wish to apologize to both Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain. It was not my intent to bring dishonor and guttural utterances into this campaign. It happened. I laughed about it. It was a 12 year old kid's reaction to Obama, it was told by his mother. I was laughing because I was being polite, but I had never heard of Curious George."
Right before the show went into a commercial break, a caller named Tammy told Limbaugh, "..my 12 year old daughter..she..her statement last week was 'who cares what the guy's middle name is, he looks like Curious George.'"
In familiar Limbaugh fashion, he tried to find humor in the matter. "We have fired the caller Tammy. We're not going to put up with this. We're not going to tolerate this kind of stuff on this program...."
He continued, "Well, Why aren't you apologizing to Hillary? Well, she's probably happy it happened." Not missing a beat, Limbaugh quickly said, "Well, I guess I better apologize for saying that."

oh please. Who doesnt know Curious George is a monkey? absolutely nobody. thats a freaking lie if i ever heard one.
and honestly, as much as I hate Rush, just because some caller's kid thinks Obama looks like Curiuos George is no need for an apology.

Rush "was laughing because I was being polite," did I read that correctly?
Big fat liar.

Why are Liberals so obsessed with race?
Honestly, anybody who is around kids knows they say silly stuff like this all the time. They don't know any better. Why make a political issue out of it???

Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh issued an on-air apology...
Rush made an issue of it, Regis. Talk to him.

First off, Rush laughed at it, so HE made it the issue.
Secondly, this wasn't a 5-year-old's comment. The kid was 12, and old enough to be a little bit sensitive to race issues, unless she lives in a community that's not integrated.

You beat me to it, Pinky. I was just about to comment on the fact that this was a 12 year-old, not a toddler. Maybe in Regis' world 12 year-olds don't know any better because they are taking their lead from their moronic parents.
Funny, but the one who seems to bring up race frequently around here is Regis.

No, Regis doesnt think its a big deal because he's probably thinking the same thing as the 12 year old but just doest have the nerves to say it........

At least not in public. I'm sure that out of the public eye, the real language comes out frequently.

It's bad enough a 12 year old said it, but the mother thought it was okay to repeat it on a syndicated radio show?

Yeah, not only was it a 12-year-old people, it was a parent who thought the story was worth repeating.
And Reg, it becomes an issue more so as comparing people of Black decent to monkeys and apes has long been considered a racial slur.
If Rush doesn't know Curious George is, he doesn't belong in his post. The character was popular in kids books before Rush was born (Rush born in '51, CG books first were published in '41. Both facts according to Wiki). He has been mainstream in all our lifetimes,on tv, on billboards and of course in books. Heck, there was a big to-do about the recent live-action/animation movie. How can Rush claim to have he finger on the pulse of U.S. society if he doesn't know who Curious George is.
Is this Rush's idea of ignoring mainstream media? Not knowing a character that has been famous for 60 years?
It reminds me of Phil Mushnik, sports media reporter for the NY Post, and who often seems like a closet racist to me. A couple of years ago, there were two African American sports guys who did a show on the weekends. Mushnik went after them from day one. After that first broadcast, he got huffy about the ethnicity of the show, especially when they did this parody of a Jamiacian woman telling the future. Now this was at theh height of the Miss Cleo era, and Mushnik didn't even mention her existance.Yet her ads were prominent on ESPN at the time. He either just wanted to drive home the fact he was against these guys or he was completely oblivious to the whole world he was reporting on. I don't see any other answer there.

I don't believe for one second that Rush didn't know who Curious George is. He's just covering his ass because he realized he was in a boatload of trouble.

he's not in a boat load of trouble...a majority of his listeners probably thought it was funny.

I'm sure his staff told him he could be heading down the Imus path if he didn't say something on air.

It is more parallel than I think people understand: In both cases, the hosts took (are taking/will take) heat for something somebody else on their shows said, which they acknowledged the wrong way.

Maybe that explains the left side.....he got pinched too hard, and it won't go back into shape?
Any cognitive dissonance, perchance. Making fun of a white guy's whiteness comparing him to a cartoon character. Hmmmmm
So, if not outright racist. Perhaps are we mocking people with skin cancer?
Oh, and Pinky, the pinched face, yes pehaps when both his arms were broken, at he Hanoi Hilton. and being unable to raise his arms he looks a little different you decide this is a characteristic you feel the need to mock. I bet they love you and DES at Walter Reed.
