Baseball is as close as a religion to me as anything can be. I know some stats and the history as a devout religious people know their scriptures. So it irks me when people at games are talking behind me and spouting off facts like they know what they are talking about. Except they don't.

I bring this up because I was at a Spring Training game yesterday and these two guys behind me apparently were trying to impress their friends by showing their knowledge. Great if they actually knew what they were talking about.

For instance, according to them, Sandy Koufax threw 510 complete games, one of the former Senators teams moved to Milwaukee, and there wasn't a team in the south until the Braves moved there.

Strikes one, two and three: Koufax didn't even start 500 games, let alone pitch 500 complete games. The two Senators teams moved to Texas and Minnesota (the Braves moved to Milwaukee for a while, and the Brewers were the Seattle Pilots for a whole season) and between Philadelphia and Oakland, the A's moved to Kansas City in 1955 (10 years before the Braves moved from Milwaukee).

As usual, I bit my tongue. One of these days though I'm likely to embarass the crap out of people like these.

Koufax... Perhaps the best pitcher of the modern error, who left the game at the height of his career due to pain in his pitching arm. Good Brooklyn kid, who my step-dad played with.

I said it was close to a religion to me Chad. :p
