It's so much fun to watch the Democrats self-destruct.

If only we had a better candidate than Juan "Pablo" McCain... *sigh*

Obama: Ferraro's comment about him 'absurd'

From Rebecca Sinderbrand
CNN Washington Bureau

(CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama on Tuesday called a comment by Geraldine Ferraro, a top Clinton fundraiser, that he was a major presidential contender only because he is a black man "patently absurd."

---------------

Earlier, Obama's top strategist, David Axelrod, called for Clinton to sever ties with Ferraro.

He said the comment by Ferraro, a former New York representative -- coupled with Clinton's "own inexplicable unwillingness" to deny that he [Obama] was a Muslim during a recent interview -- was part of "an insidious pattern that needs to be addressed."

Axelrod was reacting to a comment by Ferraro, the Democratic Party's vice presidential nominee in 1984, that appeared in the Daily Breeze of Torrance, California, on Friday.

"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman, he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept," Ferraro told the newspaper.

Ferraro Steps Down From Clinton Campaign

Geraldine Ferraro Leaves Clinton Camp After Saying Obama Where He Is Because He's Black

March 12, 2008

The Clinton campaign confirms Geraldine Ferraro has stepped down from her role on the finance committee of Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign after making racially charged remarks about Sen. Barack Obama.

Ferraro notified Clinton by letter Wednesday that she would no longer serve on Clinton's finance committee as "Honorary New York Leadership Council Chair," reported the Associated Press.

The AP reported Ferraro wrote a letter to Clinton, saying: "Dear Hillary, I am stepping down from your finance committee so I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself about what's at stake in this campaign. The Obama campaign is attacking me to hurt you. I won't let that happen. Thank you for everything you've done and continue to do to make this a better world for my children and grandchildren. You have my deep admiration and respect, Gerry," read the letter, first reported by CNN.
