This is what I was afraid of, and what I had hoped this country had outgrown...

(CNN) – Mississippi Democratic voters were sharply divided among racial lines in Tuesday's primary, exit polls indicate.
As has been the case in many primary states, Obama won overwhelming support from African-American voters. They went for him over Clinton 91-9 percent.
But Mississippi white voters overwhelmingly backed the New York senator, supporting her over Obama 72 percent to 21 percent.
According to the Associated Press, only two other primary states were as racially polarized — neighboring Alabama, and Clinton's former home state of Arkansas.
The exit polls also indicated roughly 30 percent of Mississippi Democratic voters said race was an important factor in their vote, and 60 percent of those voters supported Obama.

The other night one of my co-workers said her husband will vote republican just because one democrat is black and the other is a woman. :noway:
I looked at her in shock and asked her how she felt about that. She said she kinda sees his point. And I was like what point?! She said she feels that a woman is not ready to run this country, but she has no problem with Obama.
I think Hillary is the one having a harder time.

I agree. and I dont really see why. I mean, not that I thikn Obama should have a harder time, i just expected it to be him. It kind of seems that black peoples opression is no longer as prominant as womens. Which i really blame on the women of my generation. I truly cannot count how many think that some man should come and take care of them, or that its perfectly fine if they make 77 cents to a man's dollar. I had one classmate delcare that the womens movement was the worst thing to ever happen to America. I'm ashamed. I feel like our mothers burned their bras and protested for nothing.
Though, I guess it is entirely possible that people just dont like Hillary and it has nothing to do with her vagina. *shrugs*

I had a guy at work tell me last night that he wouldn't vote for Obama because he was sure he'd be assassinated in office. He was absolutely serious.

So maybe he'll need a bit tighter security than Bush, unless he picks someone like Darth Cheney as a running mate.
Because we all know that Cheney is Bush's life insurance.

Agnew for Nixon.
Nixon for Eisenhower.

Hmm. A trend.
Was Nixon back then considered that bad though? I mean, considering he just wouldn't go away and in fact did get elected afterwards. I mean, then Agnew as insurance for Nixon doesn't seem to make sense.
It seems to make little sense as a reason not to vote for Obama... For his own safety? And it just goes to reenforce my point with this thread: Some people I do believe think having a non-White or a female president in office is the worst thing that can happen.

It depended on who you talked to. Nixon got re-elected in large part because the Democrats didn't really nominate a viable candidate in McGovern. Great, decent man, but not a snowball's chance in hell of winning.
But I remember people joking about how you never, EVER saw Nixon and Agnew together in public. Agnew was repugnant, a sanctimonious blowhard who was really not qualified to be President. He made Nixon look, if not exactly normal, at least not completely evil.
